So could one argue that consumers had it better when Sky were allowed to buy the rights for every Premier league game?
Cheers mate, appreciate it. I've spoken to quite a few people my age on other websites / forums, and they are pretty much all snowflakes. To be fair to a lot of people my age, they don't have Sky Sports / BT Sport so the only other thing they can do is stream a game, which is a bit of a pain sometimes
Agree. There just isn't enough premium sport to go around to keep so many channels and streaming services sustainable. What's happening with BT may be just the start, I'm not going to make any predictions on how things will play out except things as they are in sports broadcasting are not sustainable and there's going to be big changes in the near future.
I remember a woman footballer saying that she believed the women's top flight was ' league 1 " level. Completely deluded. If they played a league 1 team they'd get hammered. Growth is all relative. It might be twice as good as it was 5 years ago ( not sure it is though )but its still miles behind mens boxing.
Setanta Sports, ESPN and now looks like BT Sports is the next one to add the list. How many times will people learn. They shout it's the end of sky every time a new competitor enters the arena and every time sky is the one left standing. Lol Taking on Sky is tough and costs huge amounts of money. Seems after a few years, broadcasters realise the cost of competing with sky is not worth it. DAZN just like Amazon are not gonna go huge and sink ridiculous amounts of money on sports rights. Remember Bein sports were very close to coming into the UK sports Market a few years ago but changed there minds after seeing just how much money it was gonna cost.
Sports is and add on for Amazon but it’s a must have for DAZN as it’s their whole concept. DAZNs longer term plan will partly be to move slowly into markets for rights before they have enough and effectively offer a global deal, for instance they buy serie A rights in Germany, Canada, Japan and Austria aswel as Italy. They can turn around and say we will offer you deals in the other 200 countries were in also. Many of which they may have no deal in and may make it very attractive to help the sport grow. DAZNs strategy is a long game like Netflix but they will need deep pockets to make it work
Your correct - all split up since with the customer incredibly paying Sky more for much less and asked to fork out for another 3-4 subscriptions for the sport lost to competitors. Then there is PPV Loot on top of that. Something had to give as not many people would originally pay for Sky never mind all these other subscriptions. People are bored with all the live football on TV these days and the saturation has turned people off.
Frank was pally with Adam Smith last summer and there was a few whispers of talks between them. I think it’s premature to understand what’s going on and how it may effect BT boxing though.
