Canelo and Saunders are about a year apart in age. BJS is only 31. I agree about the inactivity and quality of previous opponents though.
I've spoke too much about this idiot, but somewhere I've put two years. So within the last two years, what has BJS done that implies he can upset Canelo? Canelo looked like a master against Jacobs. BJS has never looked that good against opposition that good.
So? BJS lifestyle decisions such as inactivity, fighting two divisions above his natural weight, and now getting hit more often have all combined to age him.
Would love for BJS to win this. I don't even like the guy. His antics trolling crackheads and homeless were beyond the pale. I'd given him the benefit of the doubt several times before that but proved for good that he's a bit of a **** really. Still, it would be an epic historical overseas victory for a British fighter, if he could pull this off. A legendary victory. But the odds are well against it.
That is the weird thing, he's done absolutely nothing but it's precisely that that makes me think that he's going to cause a surprise because I think he has a certain skillset that is going to prove problematic for Alvarez. BJS is an elusive fighter with a decent chin, he'll be hard to hit cleanly and even when you do he's tough enough to handle it. He's very different to most of the recent opponents that Alvarez has faced. I've been Saunders biggest critic on here in the past, I hate how he's dined out on that Lemmy fight, I hate the stupid fights he's taken, the lay offs, the messing around and everything else but I think it could all suddenly come together on the night against a guy many think is unbeatable.
I'd say Jnr and Ryder can bang too and the likes of O'Sullivan and Lee weren't exactly feather fisted.
Look at the performance, he made Jacobs look inept. That was some of the best defensive work you will see, and Canelo didn't start out with that style either.
