I think it's more a matter of perspective, rather than most people deliberately trying to revise opinion.
We over here respected Bruno because of the way he KO'd Coetzee. Coetzee had lost to Weaver by KO, but that loss was as much fatigue related as anything.
The Page fight we justified because it came at 3:47 of round 8, when both should have been resting in the corner.
    But Bruno decimated Coetzee.
Coetzee was past it, but still, we were shocked that Bruno had knocked him into next week so easily.
So for me, as is often the case in disagreements here, it's more a matter of perspective than anything.

I must admit, I found Frank s ko of Coetzee impressive. Did anyone else ever flatten him like, im not sure they did.?

Not like that, no. It was just a brutal KO.

It was. I remember it well. It looked as if Bruno was going places, knocking out a big name, former champion in such devastating fashion.

And, that's just it. Bruno looked the part in that bout and it wasn't just the right hand. His jabs were fully extended, reaching their mark and looked sharp, setting up the right hand.

The first one to drop Coetzee was a peach, straight right. Another solid left-right followed, soon after the action resumed, forcing Coetzee to hold. The next right was a hook to the temple to close the show.

Everyone who watched this bout came away confident Frank could repeat that result, nine times out of ten.

Correct me if wrong, was that before the Witherspoon fight. Cos I remember being very confident in Bruno going in there.
It was a good first title shot performance tho looking back.

Perhaps the Coetze win merits another look.

I guess that as Bruno continued to choke on the big ones, the idea that he got Coetze at the right time increasingly fell on fertile ground.

In his biography Bruno describes it thus:

"He thinks that it is going to be an easy night for him, and it turns out to be an easy night for me."

Rahman continues to be overrated here for the lucky punch to Lewis.

I see Bruno as being a lot more overrated.

People are building him up into some sort of head to head monster today, and he simply wasn't!

Yeah even Bruno Is overrated. He had unbelievable power but he sacrificed stamina for this. I have Bruno ranked in the best 70 HWs ever.

    You are partially right.

Bruno's power was up there with anybody's.

    So was Cleveland Williams's

Power on it's own, is not worth two buckets of warm spit.

Is Bruno among the top 70 HWs ever?

Top 700 would be more realistic for him!

    It was.

Witherspoon was still favorite, if I recall, but Bruno's right-hand had earned some respect. According to Witherspoon, he took Bruno seriously, despite reason to suspect Bruno's chin was made of porcelain.

I think it was a solid performance from Bruno, but he didn't seem able to get the right hand going (and credit to Witherspoon, who was doing enough to defend and disrupt Bruno for most of the bout). Witherspoon just kept launching that overhand right of his and eventually, after digging deep, he swung a tide-turner.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Heartbreaking for the English fans, a lot thought this was the best chance for years.
