"Must keep the discussion centered around 2017. Must keep the conversation centered around 2017." The Whyte win would be a good win if it didn't happen SIX YEARS AGO when both were coming up. It's 2021.
I didn't say they were bad wins at all. I also believe AJ's resume is better than Wilder's clearly. But those guys were old ... and AJ's resume isn't as amazing as some make out. It's not at all inconceivable that Ruiz and Parker would be prove less resistance to Wilder than Luis Ortiz. Both were caught plenty but a couple of veteran gatekeeper types this weekend. Wilder should fight them.
Old but still top fighters when Joshua fought them. Wilder should fight them, because him ducking Whyte of all people doesn't look good
Whyte literally signed with Hearn FIVE YEARS AGO to get a Joshua rematch ... and Hearn put him in a car and sent him the other direction. (LOL) In the past three years, Wilder fought the champ Fury twice (and may fight him a third time this year) and Wilder fought #4 Ortiz twice. And Joshua fought Whyte SIX YEARS ago before both were top contenders and never fought him again.
I believe he fought Fury twice instead ... and may fight him a third time ... first. You can see the ratings, right? Who is rated THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST? Would you consider it a "duck" if Joshua fought Fury before Wilder? "Must keep the conversation focused on 2017. Must keep the conversation focused on 2017."
Fury is #1, Wilder is #3. Only time from 2017 to today that Wilder should have been considered ahead of Joshua is the stretch between AJ/Ruiz 1 and Wilder/Fury 2.
Or it could be because he thought Fury was pillowfisted and Fury was coming off of a 2 year cocaine binge. I believe Whyte also tried to fight Wilder and Wilder himself avoided him
Well Fury is champion - legitimate, lineal, champion, the only one i'm interested in. So he's number one. Regardless of who he fights and when. Wilder and Joshua are next in whatever order, personally I prefer Joshua.
"2017 isn't working anymore. Let's go back to 2011. Retreat. Let's go back to 2011. Stiverne-Austin. Retreat. Retreat" (LOL) It's 2021. Nobody cares. If Joshua can't fight the world champ Fury, fight Wilder. If Joshua can't fight the world champ Fury or Wilder, fight Whyte. Instead, Wilder will fight the World Champ Fury for a third time, and Joshua will fight #10 rated Usyk. https://www.ringtv.com/ratings/?weightclass=272 And the same guys will continue to say Joshua has a better resume. It's become laughable. The 2017 arguments don't work anymore. Joshua needs to start fighting the top guys again.
Oh, I see you dipped your toe into 2018. (LOL) In the last three years, Wilder has fought the current top four heavyweights four times (Fury twice/Ortiz twice) and dropped them a half dozen times. Joshua fans are lucky Wilder didn't fight Whyte at this point. If Wilder had knocked out #3 Whyte, too, (in addition to fighting Fury twice and Ortiz twice) in the last three years, Joshua wouldn't have a leg to stand on. (LOL) Substitute Whyte for Breazeale in 2019, and nobody even has to start this thread. It's obvious Fury and Wilder are the top two. Because, at this point, all Joshua has is he beat Whyte six years ago when they were both coming up and nothing was on the line.
Ortiz was overrated and very old. He's had no wins over top ten HWs, his best is Jennings who was top 11-15 fringe contender. And old Luis was taking steroids around the time he fought Jennings. Wilder avoid top ten HWs, and fought faded old guys, and chinny journeymen like Szpilka. Andy Ruiz is one of the many Wilder avoided, others included Whyte, Povetkin, Joshua. Wilder even avoided Kevin Johnson on his way up in favor of people who were knocked out multiple times, and is avoiding Charles Martin right now.
If Wilder wants to rematch Fury again its only because hes basically 0-2 and is in a position where he cannot move forward without putting the losses right. If he'd have sparked out what was supposed to be a ring rusted, pillow fisted and out of shape Fury in 2018 there would have been no rematches. Usyk is at 10 on there because hes only had 2 fights at HW. The same publication has him at #4 p4p btw although i'm not sure i'd agree with it. But he beat Chisora more convincingly than either Parker or Whyte did. He also has a win over Hunter, who is at #7 on there at HW. And he beat Joyce quite comfortably in a 5 rounder under those weird WSOB rules. Obviously we all want AJ/Fury more than anything, but Usyk is absolutely a credible opponent for AJ.
