You’re doing it again. It’s not that they don’t count, but how relevant are they, when you’re looking at how they’d have matched up stylistically, in a prime for prime fight. Are we honestly going to say that Floyd would have had an easy win, as he was undefeated, whereas Benitez had 7/8 losses in his career? Hearns lost 5 times in his career. It doesn’t mean that Floyd would have beaten him.
Floyd was better than Benitez at the same things. The end. No professor ass analysis needed to twist things in favor of the more popular fighter on this message board.
From 140 to 154, Mayweather is about 7-0 or 8-0 against fighters who are or will end up in the hof. Benitez beat three of them and lost to two. Forgive those loses, and he still fought Weston to a draw, struggled with Bruce Curry, and caught a beatdown against Hamsho.
You’re such a poor poster in these types of threads. You really let yourself down. Not once have you offered a breakdown of how they’d have matched up stylistically. All you do is ignorantly compare the statistics. It’s as dumb and as ignorant as someone claiming that Floyd would easily have beaten Hearns, on the grounds that Floyd was levels above Barkley who beat him. It would be like looking at Michael Nunn’s loss to Steve Little, and then claiming a victory for any guy who you thought was a better fighter than Little. It doesn’t matter how many HOF guys Floyd fought and beat. How is that relevant here? How was beating up a 36 year old LW in Marquez, struggling for 9 rounds with Oscar and beating a faded and injured Manny whilst on PEDS, relevant in a H2H fight against a prime version of Benitez? Yes, Benitez lost to 2 of the ATG’s who he fought in Leonard and Hearns. And? Who did Floyd ever fight in his entire career who were their equal? He never fought anybody as good as the versions of Leonard and Hearns who Benitez fought. Yes, Benitez didn’t have great longevity. His private life affected his performances in the ring. Yes, Hamsho beat him. But that was a step too far at MW, against a rugged, aggressive guy who fought absolutely nothing like how Floyd did. If you go and watch Benitez against Leonard, Duran and Hearns, you’ll realise that even though he lost 2 of those 3 fights, that he’d have been a very tough stylistic match up for Floyd. He had great boxing skills. And Floyd was a safety first fighter with hand issues for the majority of his fights at WW and JMW. The fight would have been a very technical chess match. Stop being ignorant.
Benitez was a superior counter puncher. Would have also had the reach advantage and he knew how to use it well. I would go with Benitez by UD in a fight that probably puts the audience to sleep.
