It's interesting to see people picking the 6'1, 202 pound fighter in this thread, against the 6'3 1/2 and 228 pounder.
Different to the Johansson thread, where it looks like most favour Bruno there.

I reckon Weaver would KO Bruno in about 9 or 10 rounds.

60/40 bout in favor of Bruno.

I think Weaver's will out-sized his actual capabilities. He ate a lot of shots and I don't think he'd be too hard for Bruno to find, which is a painful night out.

On the other hand, Weaver might soak up Frank's shots, lasting long enough to wear Bruno down and plant the seeds of doubt in him. Weaver did show he could carry a reserve into the latter rounds and this could spell doom for Bruno.

Either way, I think it would have been a great fight.

    Thats the honesty we like.

Shall we put the 194 3/4 Johansson (Patterson 2) into the 80s, calculate the median of Mike Weaver or go for another "Who was bigger, 212 Wilder or 213 Joe Louis?) thread?

Ontopic: I don´t like the mandible of Weaver here as well. Beside that, he used to lose alot of fights anyway, even if he wasn´t past it. And thats two meetings of ATGs less than Bruno had inside his better years.

    Why ?
    It's clear cut.
Johansson of the other thread is 198 pounds, Weaver of this thread is 202 pounds. No need for any workings out.
    Bruno is 228 in both.

You know you like to play that game.
He never got that low inside of 7 bouts before, but was 212 five months after Holmes  Shall we take the 191 version of Johansson into account too? Weaver was at least 10lb bigger than him. If we watch more of the 80s, its more like 15-20.

    There's no game.
    It's a simple comparison.
Weaver's performance against Holmes was one of his best ever, it also happens to be his first challenge for a world title, so compares well with Bruno in 1986.

You seem to have a problem sticking to the question. You want to talk about Weaver weighing more in other fights, why ? I could go on about Weaver weighing less in other fights too, but I'm not involved in your silly weight games. The weights are clear cut.
Yes, Weaver weighed as low as 189 and as high as 244 during his entire career, if you want to pick a version for a thread, go ahead.

My observation about Weaver and Johansson v. Bruno is valid though. Weaver would be giving up 26 pounds in weight and didn't have a great chin, so Bruno might have a chance in this one too !

Weaver and Ingo both KO Bruno.

Bruno's claim is crushing an inactive and injured Coetzee, and out boxing a passive McCall. The trouble Bruno gave Tyson and Lewis is overrated as he was ultimately demolished in all three bouts while boxing in survival mode.

Yeah, very strange since Bruno basically shut Bonecrusher out for 9.5 rounds.

As for the thread I like Bruno here. Yes Weaver is more durable but he's also susceptible early on with a chin not made to ship power shots. The consensus is Bruno early and Weaver late but I don't think this fight goes past 6 to be honest.

yeah, I'd make any version of Bruno an underdog against 1979 Weaver and 1958 Johansson.

Mike Hercules Weaver did hurt then WBC World Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes in their June 22 1979 title bout, at Madison Square Garden. But was stopped by Larry in the 12 th round. Mike was getting out boxed by then WBA Heavyweight Champion John Tate for 15 rounds on March 31 1980, before that big left hook by Weaver put Tate to sleep. Tim Witherspoon stopped Frank Bruno in round 11 in London on July 19 1986 to defend his WBA Heavyweight Title. Frank though strong is upright, has strength but can be worn down. Weaver might have to withstand a very hard right jab, but Mike with his incredible durability and stamina stops a game Frank Bruno in round 10.

Smith really didn't get a lot done. Bruno didn't either but smith is certainly clearly superior that much is obvious.

I dunno, even before he was washed up, Weaver's record was much more checkered with losses than Bruno.
Maybe at his peak Bruno was better, but your neutrality here is questionable when you say Weaver was stronger.
At only 2" taller, the Bruno of a Mike Tyson fight was a chiseled 247.
precisely 40 lbs. heavier, most all of it muscle.
Despite Weaver's nickname, he did not have an unusal amount of muscle at all for an '80's HW, just relatively small waist made him look stronger.
Bruno was significantly stronger than Weaver.

Bruno is 228 pounds in this thread (the Bruno of the Witherspoon fight 1986).
Weaver is 202 pounds (the Weaver of the Holmes fight in 1979).

    26 pounds difference.

OK, if it is those versions fine.
I could see an argument either way.
Weaver more skill but smaller, better peak but a much lesser record overall.
The issue of slow starter vs. strong finisher...It is very hard to find a definitive answer here.
