It is. Though occasionally in major events, particularly unifications there have been bigger rings, but it rarely gets announced or talked about and we're left to guess how big the ring is. More often a bigger than 20 foot ring were for reserved for Heavyweights. Though I'm pretty sure Mayweather Maidana was bigger than 20 feet, just from looking at it.

    Robert says ring size matters.

Soft surface reduces mobility. Says Floyd's prefers huge and stiff.

The problem is that in pro boxing there aren't strict limits and there are 4 more well known orgs and 3-4 less well known pro boxing orgs.

I think better was if ALL pro boxing orgs and in all levels fights had used 1 single size ring limited by law.
Then everyone had knew that ring size is only X and nothing else, fans had been free from xxxxxx posts and like this.

He actually said there that the ring size doesn't matter in this case, but as much as I respect Robert, he's wrong about that. This matters. Billy needs a bigger ring or else he's in trouble. He's no dummy. But the optics of what he's trying to pull here with his Daddy speaking for him and not letting him fight unless it's a 22 foot ring will not go over well if he pulls out. Robert's right about the soft canvas vs stiff canvas though, as was the case with Fury vs Wladimir. Fury wouldn't fight Wlad with the original softer ring, and got it changed to a harder ring and look what happened.

I agree. See Golovkin's masterful distance management and spacial awareness in the rematch. His back never touched the ropes. Not once over 12 rounds.

I don't believe a hard or soft ring was an issue there. And remember in the first match Canelo was the one boxing and using his footwork, so Canelo would have benefitted from a harder canvas the first time, while GGG may have benefitted from a harder canvas in the rematch.

I think that Wlad then was already too lethargic and softer ring didn't had changed outcome vs Fury at all.

Only one valid accusations against Wlad in his career I think were stuff that refs not rarerly allowed him to hold too much. This yeah.
Ali in 70 ies too used holding a lot if this was suitable for him. Not only these boxers. A lot from old decades boxers too.

Bjs is always full of drama. There's a reason I stopped being a fan of his.

I can't see this helping Fury-Joshua negotiations, if Tyson is jumping up and down and he and Saunders are calling Hearn names for weeks and then Saunders pulls out of the Canelo fight with days to go.

What conditions will Fury threaten to walk over just days before the fight in Saudi Arabia?

Make it cooler, Eddie, you dosser. It's too hot here in the desert. (LOL)

It's one thing no promoter can stand ... fighters threatening to walk days before an event.

Hearn has already publicly stated he was angry that Saunders wasn't thankful he got him the Canelo fight.

But maybe the hard canvas was why he looked so lethargic. Maybe he never fought on a canvas that hard before and that certainly would explain why he was so ineffective.

This could actually be a great training method for infighting.

If the ring size hasn't been agreed to by both parties in writing, then it's still up for negotiations. Like I said, both sides dropped the ball on this.
