Who´d do better at HW today, Frank Bruno or Ingemar Johansson ?

He fought in a different division. It’s super heavyweight now.

I don’t favour Ingo over Liston actually.

I give Ingo perhaps a 50-50 chance on his best ever day...but that’s not favouring him, that’s a punchers chance.

Overall Liston should always beat Ingo because he’s better.

I think they might both do OK. If a guy like Kownacki gets rated highly then I believe they could too. Today's HW division is nothing to write home about.

Yeah, even for the most legitimate contenders it takes a 10 round points decision over Chisora or Jennings to make top 10 these days, neither of which are beyond Frank or Ingemar.

I agree with the point your sarcasm is designed to illustrate. And to solidify that point, Kubrat Pulev remained in the ratings for years without doing much of anything. I don’t however see Ingemar Johansson going very far in any post modern heavyweight division. At 6’1, 199 lbs or whatever he was, he’d be smaller than some modern day cruisers. In order to make that jump he’d have to be superb boxer with elite skills and speed to make up for the size difference and he wasn’t that type of fighter. He more or less stood right in front of people and tried to deck them which doesn’t work well when you have an average chin and against guys who have about six inches in height and 40-50 lbs in weight over you.

 

He was a better boxer than that.

 

Johansson might have to go on the Ruiz/Kownacki diet to impress the scales.

 

How do you anticipate him doing today if he were around and in the exact same form as he was in 1959 ? This means no changes to style or physique . Would he be a heavyweight and if so how would he fair ?

 

He'd do okay.
He could make cruiser or heavyweight.
He wouldn't make it to #1 but he'd be among the top 5 or 10.

I could see him making top 10 in CW division. I think his prospect journey through heavyweight would be brutal

 

I think Ingo could do as well as David Haye. Not one of the best, but good enough to make an impression for a bit.

 

Ingo would do far better than Haye did IMO. I think Usyk, Joshua and Fury clearly should be favoured to beat him, and Ruiz, Hrgovic and Joyce are too big and tough for him. Wilder, Whyte and Ortiz have a puncher's chance, but I doubt that they all beat him. I also doubt Ingo is undefeated vs the three of them. He'd beat Hunter though. Bruno would beat Whyte, Ortiz, Joyce and Hrgovic here IMO.

Essentially, they do about the same.
