Is it irrefutable that Lennox Lewis cheated and fouled to victory over Vitali Klitschko?

I have a feeling Lewis cheating severely against Frank Bruno too.
How else could he have defeated The Great Bruno ??

I think Lewis had turned the corner with those late bout rallies and would have prevailed personally.

I know he trained Lewis (by this time he was probably affiliated with the Klits) but Steward said this and he makes some good points tho regardless doing the damage he did to someones face is a rather legitimate way to win -

And I will be with Vitali and Wladimir and we will be together, and some people will ask, “Mr. Steward, who would have won if that fight had of continued with Vitali and Lennox?”

I said, “Lennox was going to win that fight”.

“Well, you know, Vitali was ahead”.

I said, “Ahead is one thing, but he had six rounds to go! In a heavyweight fight, and one fighter’s whole face is torn apart?”

I mean it’s ridiculous. There is no way he was going to win that. Lennox had been in those situations before and then came back.

With everything I told him to do, Lennox looks at me, goes out there, and wins the fifth round big time. And then he wins the sixth round big time, and when he came back at the end of the sixth round he looked at me and he said, “I got him now!”

 

I want to believe Lewis would have won, as I'm not the biggest Vitali fan.

That was shocking.

If I remember rightly, Lewis actually gave him a three punch combo while he took a knee. Uppercutting him to get him to stand up.

 

I watched. Lennox was done, he basically threw everything he had and was on his way out. Sagging into his stool. Vitali, was not even close to as exhausted as LL.

Lennox was lucky, he did not have to go out on his shield. It was inevitable.

 

Both were exhausted as hell. Is was clear in the final seconds of the 6th round. Just because Vitali yelled "NOOOO" Doesn't mean he was ready to go into the 7th full of energy.

 

I personally think every great hw was very knowledgeable about little ways to “cheat” or get ahead. Wether it be a headbutt (Marciano and Holy were good at this) elbows (Tyson), holding (Klitchkos), stepping on feet, hitting low (Dempsey), thumbs in eyes (Ali), substance on gloves (Liston), kidney shots on other side of the ref, holding and hitting (Walcott and Lewis)..biting peoples ears off. The greats try to find a way to get an edge regularly...except Patterson mans a damn gentlemen

 

Neither were cheating, exhausted, or done. Lewis was tearing his face up, and would've continued to do so. Period.

There's just endless nonsense spouted about this fight. Wasn't the original thread in the General forum still going literally 10 years after the fight?

It was a true fistfight. Lewis tore the left side of his face off. Lewis won. If the fight had continued, Vitali would probably be walking around with a glass eyeball.

 

Frazier too. Exceptionally clean fighter for his style.

 

If almost tearing up and almost punching off half of your opponents face with legal punches is cheating and fouling he most certainly cheated. Oh my god did he cheat.

The flip side is ohhhhhh so obvious and one can easily see what Vitali and fight fans would be saying if it was let go on and Vitali suffered career ending injuries. Vitali would be waxing lyrical that the fight should have been stopped and no consideration was given for his health. There would be court cases, officials would be sacked, calls for boxing to be abolished and the like.

Fight fans would run rampant on such a miscalculation and disbelief would reign. I would be right behind it too.
