Larry Holmes 1980 vs Frank Bruno 1986, in light of Frank Bruno Month. We have to give Frank every opportunity to meet the very best that Classic has to offer in this 15 rounder. Would Larry outbox Frank or would Bruno catch Holmes, scoring a Reynaldo Snipes sized knockdown that would occur a year later?

I think Holmes outboxes him and breaks him down in about 9 rounds.

The Larry Holmes jab was straight and accurate, very punishing.

Yeah but Bruno had a good strong jab as well. Maybe not as fast but still very powerful when it landed. Not that I’m suggesting that Bruno could outjab Holmes but did anyone ever match jabs with Holmes in any of his fights and fared well against him?

This is probably the right opportunity to put Frankie in against Tokyo Buster Douglas! Cannot believe nobody ever thought of that matchup.

While Holmes was leagues better than Bruno, I can see Frank being the type of contender who might give Holmes some issues here and there, as a few of Holmes’ lesser challengers did. As someone already mentioned, Bruno had a pretty good jab himself. A powerful right hand which Holmes was susceptible to getting hit by. He had lots of power and was always in shape. Ultimately Larry breaks him down late and stops him, but not before taking a few lumps himself.

As I see it, Holmes would take a couple rounds, Bruno would land a big one, maybe even deck Larry, but then run out of all his gas afterwards and get pummeled by Larry before being stopped in like 7 rounds.

    Holmes late stoppage

He boxes Frank's ears off then when Bruno gasses Larry tees off until the ref stops it

7 Frank Bruno threads on the main page! I'm not even sure Marciano had that many in his prime.
    EDIT:
    Make that 9 now

Bruno has absolutely no chance whatsoever of beating a prime Holmes. Zero. Zilch.

One was one of the mentally toughest men to ever step in the ring, with endless stamina. The other was a mental midget with no stamina.

You really want Frank to get badly hurt?
