Very excited to hear that Gal will be challenging Justis Huni for the Australian H/W title. He deserves to be well compensated for doing so & is giving the sport of boxing in this country a great boost. Huge respect for Gallen taking the fight.
June 6th so pretty quick turn around for Gallen good on him for having a serious go and not worrying about trying to protect his record. Huni is the one with plenty to lose even if he wins but struggles that will not be a good look for him. So for the Aussie title it should be a 10 rounder then.
Yeah, there's a bit of trying to generate some publicity for the fight in what he said but I don't see the point in criticising Gallen for doing something that none of the other top heavies in Australia have been willing to do. I also think Gallen knows full well what he's up against but is willing to give the young bloke a chance to make a name for himself regardless. I think there's a strong element an altruism in Gallen taking the fight that he should be commended for.
Should be 10x3 for an Australian title. Very big ask for Gallen. Huni will have the short turnaround though. He's going ahead with a fight against Christian Tsoye on 26 May. If he wins them both, he might even have time to squeeze in a fight against Big Daddy Browne before the Olympics.
Huni is not a one punch KO artist I reckon Gallen will have a go for 6 rounds probably lose every round and get stopped on his feet.
What a toss Lonergan is. His job is to promote a fight but he slags off the opponent. Basically telling the punters you are idiots if you buy this fight because it will be so one-sided. Not helping his own fighter out either by putting doubts about the credibility of victory should he get it...and if he loses, even worse. How bad does he look then by Lonergan's own standard?
Hopefully they put another good under card for Gallen Huni maybe Jeff Horn should make his return in the chief support.
He appears to have decided to give up boxing. He had a young family, not sure if that played a part in his decision.
Pfff, what a letdown. I know he has given boxing up before and blown up in weight.Pitty, thought he had some ceiling to him.
This fight is Apollo Creed (Huni) versus Rocky Balboa (Gallen). Except it's not make believe. It's as real as a doughnut. It could be an epic stand from Galvatron against all odds that will have the PPV buys soaring. I hope Gal gives a good enough account of himself to want a rematch after the Olympics which is apparently an option in the contract in his favour. In your scenario, if Gal gets stopped on his feet he can protest the stoppage & enforce the rematch clause. The first fight should be in Sydney to give Gal the best opportunity of performing well. The rematch can be in Dodge City or anywhere else north of the border. Personally, I'm looking forward to an epic last stand from Gal of General Custer proportions.
