I think it's one of the best boxing songs around personally. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-ppdluPvCww" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It is a great song and it gives some notable informations about Sonny Liston's life for the listener. There are following lines: "He had a left like Henry's hammer" and "A right like Betty Bamalam". I checked it, and Henry's hammer is probably based on John Henry (an American folk hero), but I don't know about Betty Bamalam. Mark Knopfler has also written the song: "Brothers in Arms" for his band Dire Straits, which belongs to my favourite songs. I also like the song about Joe Louis (Sonny's idol). It's also more of a good mood song. This content is protected
Great stuff. Knopfler is an artist. Of course Bob Dylan wrote and recorded Hurricane about Rubin Carter. A bit more obscure was Warren Zevon’s rocker Boom Boom Mancini (which also references Bobby Chacon, haha): This content is protected
You know for the longest time I thought that the July 1966 hit Sunny by Bobby Hebb was about Sonny Liston, but found out it was made in honor of President Kennedy.
This content is protected Great couple of tunes by a superb London Irish band, The Biblecode Sunday's. The first, about Billy Conn.
And the second "The Cinderella Man" about the Bergen Bulldog, Jimmy Braddock. Enjoy! This content is protected
