I don't see any fear there. In any case, it's often good for a fighter to feel a little fear. Has a sharpening effect. I'd rather Saunders have a little fear in him than be complacently over confident which dulls the nervous system.
Canelo is the favorite for sure, and rightly so. But Billy Joe is definitively a very live underdog. Biggest issue here could be the judging. Billy Joe might have to win at least 9 rounds to get at least a draw
Based on everything I've read on this fight, Billy Joe Saunders can easily "shock the world" simply by performing poorly. The current narrative swirling around, especially in circles of Canelo dissenters, is that Billy Joe will give him a good fight, if not a hell of a fight. While I've never been a fan of Canelo Alvarez (though I've tried), I see him winning this one legitimately. BJS is simply too unstable, too inexperienced compared to his opponent. Canelo, though undeservedly venerated, has skills. He is one of the most complete fighters around at this point. The greatness of this sport we love lies dormant in the mystery of truth as we continuously analyze fighters' strengths and weaknesses in an attempt to call these fights. I admit here that I'd love to be wrong in my assessment.
You're like a wind-up doll that just churns out boxing cliches. It's a moot point, because these perceived "levels" have not stopped countless upsets from occurring throughout history.
Talking of levels, here's what Canelo said of Saunders. “Saunders is fighting on another level. That’s all I could say. Come Saturday, he’s going to feel it.”
That's a fair point, although he doesn't seem to have a hold on his fear. A lot of what he did was his body betraying him and I am starting to think that the mind games and gypsy magic may be coming back directly to him. Hope for his sake he can get it together for the fight.
Very intelligent point. It's a man who is shrinking and relying on his community to prop him up. Unfortunately I think it's only adding to his self designed downfall. It's crazy how much the mind games have come back to hurt him.
I always think mind games are a sign of weakness as though the fighter feels he can only win if he gets the upper hand before the start of the fight.
Could be, sometimes they seem to work on fighters like when Eubanks got done by them. It's a strange thing but Canelo appears to be in total control knowing it's just an easy days work for him from a mentality standpoint.
Do you mean Eubank Jr when he fought BJS or Eubank Snr when he fought Collins? I've never seen the Eubank vs Saunders fight and don't know anything about the build-up to it.
