How good would Tommy Morrison be in the current era?

Agree with Magoo and Seamus. About the same as in his own era. If he's the same guy, he's bringing all the same problems like boozing and partying too much, too.

Tommy was a joke in the 90's. He would be a joke today.

 

He would be the same as he was in his own era.

His power would guarantee him considerable success.

His limitations would guarantee that he only got so far!

 

Not really understanding all this confidence in Tommy Morrison. Yes, he existed in one of the strongest eras in the sport. But aside from being born at the right time, his accomplishments in that period pretty much end there.

Morrison struggled mightily with an aged Carl Williams who had him down twice and very nearly beaten.

Morrison was decked twice and taken to a draw by Ross Purity who’s record at the time was 8-8.

Morrison was KO’d in one round by the 10-1 Michael Bentt.

Morrison battled life and death with Joe Hipp - a fight which rendered Tommy badly injured against an opponent who was beaten with far greater ease by Bruce Seldon and Bert Cooper.

Morrison was battered severely by Ray Mercer who was admittedly decent but probably a lower to mid level contender.

Morrison was decked by an aged and mostly inactive Razor Ruddock who had fought only once in 2.5 years and may have fallen victim to an early stoppage.

Morrison’s only win of note in his career was a decision over an aged Foreman who hardly looked like he was fighting very hard to stop him. Furthermore it was the eventuality of big George later winning the crown from Moorer that gave this win any value.

If Tommy “ The Duke Morrison “ were to face a well trained and motivated Derick Chisora in an honest strait up fight, I don’t even know if he’d win. He generally didn’t do well against guys who could take a punch while hitting back regardless of what level their abilities were.

Fury would outclass and stop him.
Joshua would knock him out.
Wilder would decapitate him.
Ruiz would basically do what Mercer did.
Whyte probably stops him in a slop fest.
Parker probably decisions him.
Usyk and Hunter both beat him.
Ortiz bangs him out in a round.
Joyce wears him down and stops him.

Surprise: He'd beat a totally shot, post-COVID Povetkin.

 

On the other hand, Michael Bentt managed to grab a belt in Morrison's era. Martin and Parker are better than Bentt.

 

Dunno about fighting in the ring but outside the ring he could well be the most popular and most hyped boxer on social media.

 

Tommy Morrison would be up there just behind todays big 3 ......I imagine a more focus in shape Tommy...and he'd have bested the likes of Chisinau,whatever,parker,ortiz...he may be the ruiz figure vs AJ or deontay...stylistically fury and poverty beat him

 

Poor morrison must have done something to ya. I've never seen you favoring him over anyone.

 

I'd favor him over Joe Hipp but just barely.
