In George Foreman's comeback, did he ever fight a boxer who hit harder than he did?

You are talking about the effectiveness of punches.
When people say punching power, & what those words literally mean, they are discussing how much force is landed.

Someone can be well short of the most efficient & effective punchers, yet hit harder than others who are better punchers.

 

You really think Foreman was vastly overrated at all points in his career, especially his comeback, correct?
While he did dodge some of the very best, he was much better in his early 40's compared to later.
Maybe start a thread cataloguing all the ways & reasons you think he is deficient & overrated!

Morrison definitely had power as did Stewart. Look at Foreman face after the fight with Alex

I knew you were above-but I also said you think he is overrated throughout his career. Referring to many posts on many other threads.

I suggested a thread where you organize the arguments throughout his career.
Maybe come people-which may or may not include you-will alter their opinions.

 

One of his ‘Old George’ fights HBO (I think) had a camera in the locker room and showed him getting gloved up.

It was two people, one on each side, gripping the glove and pulling it over his massive fist. It barely stretched over.

Basically George was clobbering people with a pair of canned hams or frozen turkeys at the end of his arms.

That’s why one punch that traveled about 18 inches put 36 stitches inside of Michael Moorer’s mouth (even with him wearing a mouthpiece). Think about that.

 

He's definitely right up there, my friend. Plus, he was a really good boxer, too. People forget that Liston was actually a better boxer than guys like the trinity I mentioned; I think he was dismissed in that facet due to being showed up by the best boxer in heavy history (60's Ali).

Yeah I missed the “few times” Briggs staggered Foreman.

 

This is why punching power is more nuanced than people think. It's not a simple matter of comparing A to B to C.

Force is mass x acceleration. Everyone and their grandma knows that equation.

But two people can be the same height and same weight yet hit different. Guys like Foreman can hit harder than someone who is of a similar built because he has massive hands with very thick, dense bones. It's like comparing a 5 pound steel hammer to a 5 pound rubber mallet. The objects in question technically weigh the same, but the resulting damage on a wooden door will be totally different because of the physical properties of both objects.

When you have very big hands with dense bones you don't even need to accelerate your hands very fast to deliver much force. In fact, most guys with bone structures like that simply can't accelerate quickly because they do not have a lot of fast twitch explosive muscle.
