The engine problem is quite simple. He stepped it up in the 5th and it was the beginning of the end for him in reality. He slowed down in the 6th and allowed Canelo to land some big shots and again in the 7th. By the 8th it was inevitable.

I’m not here calling him a quitter or a shithouse. So I’m not being harsh, I’m not being biased, I’m calling it how it was.

Lol at armchair boxers thinking they can take that uppercut and carry on walking.

Canelo knew. He was celebrating with Bill still on his feet.

Comments from Billy Joe after Dubois-Joyce declaring that he would never quit after a broken eye socket have resurfaced on Twitter. When will these boxers learn not to talk like that prematurely?

Maybe. We'll see when we know the extent of the injury. He's always talking about heart/will to win/never quitting so I was shocked it was ended so quickly after all the talk he does.

You’re embarrassing yourself. Compubox or simple eye test, you’re deluded if you think Saunders landed more punches.

Even with the benefit of hindsight what would have been the point of Billy Joe Saunders carrying on ?

Regardless of the eye injury he was never going to win the fight no matter how well he performed on the night and in those final four rounds.

The best case scenario is that he would have continued to box well and made it hard work for Canelo in those final four rounds only to lose a wide points decision.

The likely scenario is that BJS would have took more heavy punishment in the next round and got stopped.

Worst case scenario - Watch Chavez v Meldrick Taylor 1.

Canelo is a great fighter, similar to Chavez is his prime and it will take a special performance to beat him and even then as Pernell Whitaker found out against Chavez a win is not guaranteed.

The defeat will actually be a blessing in disguise for BJS, he's made millions, has his health intact, has a readymade excuse and it set's everything up for the Eubank Jnr rematch which is actually better fight and at a level he is comfortable with.

I Disagree. As you can see the forum posters are pretty divided On who they had up.

Even pro Canelo pundit Chris mannix and BJS up.

He was landing nothing. A few feather fisted jabs here and there. Apart from 1 round it was comfortable for Canelo. He punished him with bruising body shots from round 1. Every time he landed I was wincing. You could feel the pain. When Saunders landed you just thought yeah good counter, good boxing for a second that was all. It was a walk in the park for Canelo.

Harsh truth is he isn't the man he thought he was. No shame in that. Time to walk away from the sport for him now I think.
