Ive read ridiculous one sided threads and posts just like this by both sides. From BJS was schooling Canelo (which he wasnt) to how it was an easy night for Canelo. It was always going to take a few rounds for Canelo to work BJS out....and he did. 2 of the scorecards were poor imo....the 5-3 card u could argue was fine as 3 or 4 rounds were close. I had it 4-4 at the end of the 8th but make no mistake Canelo was ready to take over. Those body punches were taking their toll and were the reason for BJS ducking so low. Was an interesting fight and the better man won. BJS done well and can learn from this to not slate other fighters for quitting with fight ending injuries!!!

This is why never fight in the UK. BJS heck no didn't win Canelo was taxing that body and had Sauders in survival mode. Come on. What fight is you watching? BJS had no answers for Canelo all he did was shake his head and say you got me but it didn't hurt. Well, how about this upper cut. BOOOM! You got me good this time. I quit!

    I just rewatched it sober.

Drunk I had it 4-3 going into the 8th for Canelo. Sober I had it 5-2 for Canelo.

Saunders made a very good account of himself, but Canelo had the better punches, better defense, and fought at his pace.

A lot of people seem to have this weird fetish for out-boxers. If the out-boxer does their little dance on the outside regardless of the effectiveness of the weak little biscuit punches thrown, they’ll score the rounds for them. Thudding power connects are more significant than some weak probing jabs that are mostly getting blocked, parried or slipped which themselves count for almost nothing. This is probably why we see fewer and fewer dedicated pressure fighters in boxing, esp in higher weight classes. Their work goes unappreciated.

BJS has one of the ugliest most unappealing styles IMO.

That has pretty much been him in most of his big fights so far, see his fights with Eubank Jr. and Andy Lee. Once he can no longer keep it up he starts taunting his opponents.

I disagree that Billie wasnt showing signs of gassing. Billie was also showing signs of the body shots troubling him

In hindsight, had Billie not got caught by that punch. I am 100% sure that Canelo would have opened up on him and stopped him in the 9th or 10th. It was at the point in the fight where Billie wasnt mobile as he was in the earlier rounds and had been broken down and softened up

All the really big punches had been landed by Canelo in that fight. The body punches were deposits in the bank.

Even though the scorecards could have been relatively close either 4-4, or 5-3. The point was that Billie was ready to go at that point, and Canelo caught him perfectly with the uppercut as Billie was trying to protect himself from the body shot...

Also, as I said in other posts. Billie footwork wasnt good enough and his feet werent quick enough from very early on. He was never going to see the final bell in that fight.

I had it 5-2 for Canelo.

Honestly I also don't understand this outboxer fetish either. You are supposed to score on 4 criteria: clean punching, effective aggression, defense, and ring generalship. Canelo was landing the best punches of the night round after round, even in the rounds he lost. I don't consider a pity pat jab more effective than a nice clean body shot. Canelo slipped most of BJS's punches, looked calmed collected and in control of the fight, never back peddled and the only time he was reaching and hitting air was in round 5, BJS's best round. On multiple occasions you could see Canelo find his target, especially with body punches and BJS would freeze up or immediately cover up even though it was too late. He looked more and more worried as the fight went on and was going to get knocked out one way or another. The monster upper cut was just icing on the cake.

But then again more than half of the board are Canelo haters so that skews scoring as well.

The outboxer fetish is why people think Fury was robbed in the first Wilder fight.

He outlands wilder by about 1 tap and a tongue wiggle per round. Robbery (not including 2 KD's too, one which could have been waved off and nobody would have complained)

I believe I'm as unbiased as you can get for this fight. Not a huge fan of either one of them personality wise.

I scored it 5-3 Canelo going into the ninth. Could easily call it 4-4 though because the first round was a toss up.

No point in out boxing someone if you can't last the distance. It's like 99% of Wilders opponents
