yeah, I really was big on him back in the day and envisioned an ATG (TBF there are very very few boxers I don’t like)...but he was still very good. Once I forgave him for destroying Meldrick we were good again.
Think Terry might be too fast and he could hit too. On the other hand he had a tendency to get reckless which Canelo would take advantage of. 50/50 fight.
I have to admit it Philly, I quite liked Terry myself back in the day. I liked how he could be unpredictable, and that Gung ho attitude he had. Yes, he did a job on poor Taylor! As for this fight I've got stopping him in around 9,after having to take a lot of fast shots from Terry.
There are two things to consider. First, at 154, Canelo was nowhere near as skilled as he is now. Two, he would be much larger than Norris. I know someone that sparred with Canelo back then and I have seen many rounds of him working. At that time, to beat Canelo you threw 2 and moved. So I think that the way for Norris to win is to box him, pop pop and move. Let the big punches find themselves, don't dig in to punch and get yourself countered. Canelo is fighting well right now but he is only a master counter puncher by today's standards. He is always a half beat slow, technically, but most of the guys he fights aren't too smooth so it works. It would work 9n Norris, too, if he forgot to box. Because he reached and swiped a lot and Canelo is good at countering that.
I'd give Norris a much better chance at 154 than 160. Canelo was prone to gassing at 154 and didn't look nearly as strong. On the other hand, he was a huge 154 guy. Norris might be able to stick and move against canelo.
Man, Norris might be able to but it's a low percentage. I recall his chin wasn't the greatest, and Canelo always hit pretty hard even at 154.
Was his main weakness, his chin. Got blasted by Jackson, no shame in that of course and then Simon Brown. The Brown fight was a massive upset too I recall.
I'm surprised that so few are giving Norris a sniff here. Canelo wasn't all that at 154 and looked as if he was wading through treacle with his footwork at times. He also had to fight in spurts and take breathers a lot more often. Wasn't all that hard to find. In fact, taking both at their best at 154, I think Norris on points is the percentage call. Obviously with Norris' occasional lapses in concentration and tender chin, he could get taken out at any moment or get bludgeoned with something that starts him unravelling and he can't recover from, but if it's the hard-to-catch Norris of the Castro fight or Brown rematch then I think he could make Canelo look silly and put in a safety-first and dominant points win. Norris had the ability and conditioning to look fresh and still be throwing those combinations, as well as being up on his toes, right into and through the championship rounds.
