Lara was close and could have went either way. He did lose the first one with GGG but won the second (in my opinion)

He does polarise opinion, with the failed tests and scorecards like the one in the Floyd fight, but he is great to watch and is in his prime here.

Nonsense for those saying Billy was clearly ahead. Firstly, he got his eye socket shattered and pulled out so it’s moot at this point but it was just a close fight. I had Canelo slightly up, one round swing and Billy was up after 7 so the margins are quite fine. A lot of it depends on what you like. Canelo is composed, moves forward and lands eye catching shots that have 70K people screaming. I’m not saying that it’s right but it probably is a factor when judging. I had him 4-3 up after 7, can see how someone would have it the other way around.

Billy did way better than I thought. All the slating he has done of other fighters quitting will haunt him now. Very easy to judge them when you haven’t been there. (I think he was right not to continue FYI as it looked nasty, but others have fought on through much worse)

So Floyd was shot? That was one of his best wins, and he wasn't a 36 year old like Tyson or Pac was. He had low mileage on him when he fought Canelo.

 

Never said he was shot, I actually said he was still an elite fighter when he fought Canelo but he was past his best

It’s an interesting subject - when was floyds peak?

I’ve had a look through his back catalogue and for me his peak came somewhere between 2005-10 somewhere between Gatti and Mosley. He was clearly a past peak fighter by the time he fought Canelo.

 

His eye socket is shattered and he couldn't see out of it. I'm not defending the man but I am defending the situation....do you really think he should have fought on, seriously?

 

Haha, not having a bad day mate, I like both both boxers and have seen Canelo live numerous times. The draw scorecard against Mayweather shows there will always be corruption whenever he boxes on the scorecards and that simply isn’t right. Now go to bed with your Teddy mate.

130/135 Floyd was his peak. Fast, accurate but a front foot fighter that actually tried to put on a show and beat fighters rather than pot shot to decisions. That guy, with his skills and reflexes would beat any version of Canelo.

 

Yeh was thinking about that myself then reading this thread. Could say physically his peak was more between 05 - 10, but that when he was older he was at his peak even more mentally, ring savvy wise etc. Either way amazing for a man of 36 to still be as sharpo as he was in the canelo fight regardless of his style

He looked fine when he came back in 2009 but I think he was already starting to decline in '07, slightly.

 

Of course he couldn’t have fought on. Let’s just hope his attitude to other fighters changes now that he has been through that situation himself.
