Indeed. Losing the use of one eye completely = depth perception gone. If you can't judge distances properly you won't land and you won't evade - so you won't score and you'll get knocked out, or worse. Insane to even contemplate continuing in that situation.
I think billy joe will take it on the chin tbh...i,ve always had him down as allright. Just his immaturity lets him down and it has for years. Most of the time he,s an allright bloke tho. Thought i seen in the corner last night it was billy that said no more. Was pretty much the only option he had tbh. Not like he could have went for broke to get canelo out of there or that.
Privately? Maybe. Publicly? He's so much into bluster and talking himself up, I doubt he's going to come out and admit he was wrong to say that before.
Quite surprised at that...watched a good bit of billy in interviews over the years and at times he does come across quite honest a lot of the time. I could be wrong tho.
Yeah made his money...time to get out imo. Cant say he never challenged the best in the end being in with canelo...just a pity he never had a few better fights at 160. Agree about 168...think billy lost a bit of confidence knowing he wasnt great at 168. Might have been more interesting at 160. Only route he can take now imo is a couple of manageable warm ups then a big fight against eubank junior to sign off with. Long time retired...one big money maker and winnable fight left on the table. Eye has to be allright tho.
And the relevance of that to the conversation is? Canelo broke that eye, yep. Cracking punch, literally. What the relevance of that is to whether it's quitting to throw the towel in I really don't know.

Totally disagree. His stock went down. The UK scene has some empathy for their fighters to a degree. Americans? Not. They don't give a crap about the injury. As far as they are concerned BJS is a quitter a *****, that's how they see it. He talked a big game and didn't back it up. He quit in front of 70k baying spectators who wanted to see him go out on his shield. Unfortunately for him, it all happened on the biggest stage where there is absolutely no hiding. He got paid well but will never rid himself of the shame. This is just the harsh reality.
Saunders is done at the top level, not that he was ever really there, but he could have beaten Canelo a few years ago. He wasted his best years, it happens. Back to microwave chicken passanda and bumfights.
If anything BJS boxing STOCK has risen and fallen at the same time. It is both higher and lower than it was last week, that is to say, nothing stays the same.
I thought he looked great to be honest, in no way out of his depth against the pound-for-pound number one. You could tell, however, that Canelo had really studied his opponent, because he was winding that uppercut up from the first minute of the first round. Even though he is a disreputable fellow, it was still terrible to see him crying after they had called it off; and you could tell, in that moment, it meant as much to him as he had been saying all along. I think saying he "quit" is nonsense: would it gratify you to see him blinded, or even dead in the ring?
I can't remember which round he started looking good in, but for 2 or 3 rounds before the end he was really getting going. Mark Tibbs remarked after the fight that he felt BJS was too slow to get started, too cautious. BJS boxed quite well though. I don't think his stock's risen or fallen. He was regarded as a good boxer but ultimately a level below Canelo. Which is what the fight confirmed.
Some serious clowns in this thread. His corner pulled him out after he received a debilitating injury in which his eye was smashed to bits. Full credit to Canelo for landing the punch, he'd tried it numerous times prior with little success but Saunders continued to lean over his front foot which allowed Canelo to again try and this time land the monster shot that done the damage. Prior to that, Saunders which very much in the fight and was boxing well. He was actually gaining momentum in the previous 2-3 rounds but I do think there was always an air of "impending doom" that Canelo could switch up a few gears however we was being made to miss wildly at times. I thought all things considered it was a good effort from BJS against the p4p #1 on American soil with all the cards stacked against him. At least in this instance we seen a fight take on Canelo without being overawed by the occasions and just "being happy to be there".... like we've seen far too often.
