Me neither. Unless one genuinely believes Peter was the second coming of Foreman. In all seriousness, Vitali's formidability seems to be based on: - having given Lewis a good go for a few rounds. - his size. - the 'eye test' against mediocre to poor opposition.
Yes. It's kind of always been that way since 2003. One might have hoped Vitali fans would realize that going to such lengths in their attempts to wring out mileage from a stoppage loss, is a fairly good sign that Vitali isn't quite proven as the Cerberus of heavyweights. On it's face, it really is quite amusing.
Bump, been thinking of this fight a lot. At first i thought this fight would be one sided in favor of Vitali, but Spink never had trouble with taller opponents, he showed great head movment against Holmes, was incredibly awkward for Holmes and dismantled Cooney albiet a past it Cooney and showed lots of lateral in that fight too. I actually think Spinks troubles Klitschko early with his movement but gets worn down and stopped late. It would be competitive. People are forgetting that Byrd who is naturally smaller than Spinks gave Klitschko issues with his slickness down the stretch and that was Spink's bread and butter against Cooney. Except Spinks showed significantly quicker foot speed than Byrd and was also beating Cooney to the punch in addition to counterpunching in spots just like Byrd was
People theorizing Spinks could beat Klitschko wouldn't bet an empty packet of cheetos on him in real life. As usual they'll be hoping for the Byrd Miracle to re-occur despite it being pretty much a 20-1 event. Only in Vitali's career is a 5% chance ballooned up to 50% Myself, I think Vitali knocks Spinks out just like he did 41 out of his other 45 wins, and then afterwards everybody says it was a mismatch and how brave Spinks was to even fight him.
Spinks was p4p the better fighter. But I think Vitalis physical advantages would make this a bit too hard for Spinks to win
Most people have no idea what they're watching. Vitali vs Byrd was an extremely close fight, which either man had a claim for winning by the time of the stoppage. Not much shame in that, as Byrd was obviously a very difficult style for Vitali and was an excellent fighter in his own right. Easily a top 25-30 heavyweight. But his defence and jab while coming forward, really messed with Vitali. Vitali out-worked him, but it was Byrd who landed the quality shots and Byrd who was taking over before the stoppage. The fact that multiple people suffered the same injury vs Byrd shows its no fluke. And most of them didn't quit. Spinks has a chance, as he was better than Byrd - if a little different - but I think you'd have to favour Vitali based on Spinks' vulnerabilities at heavyweight. Ultimately it means nothing though. Vitali prime for prime is 70lbs bigger than Spinks, and aside from chin, isn't better in any aspect.
Scrap HW boxing then. HWs compared to their heavier counterparts are just awful. Prime Lewis got KTFO by Oliver McCall.
