1) Not many fighters south of 175 in history have much of a chance of KO'ing Froch - definition of Teak Tough 2) Froch has quite a freakish reach, and showed at times (Abraham) he could really work a fantastic jab and keep dangerous punchers at distance I think it would be fascinating, but can easily see Canelo getting frustrated by Froch's reach and underrated jab. The Cobra would have a few adverse spots, but IMO Canelo does not have the workrate to win a fair UD over Froch. UD Froch IMO, as neither are getting KO'd unless it's to the body. The only 2 fighters I can really remember Froch struggling with was Dirrel (who was on his bike all night) and Ward (super strong and very different style to Canelo, with mauling inside game and great IQ). Not seen anything from Canelo that suggests to me he stops or dominates Froch.
The Canelo high is real right now. None of Canelo's opponents have taken it to him since 35 yo GGG 1 or come to win since then and BJS.. Froch would take it to him and actually try and land punches And an opponent the actual same size as Clenelo and willing to take it to him will will or potentially knock him out Clenelo looked far more of a natural SMW than Billy did the other night
Honestly where is this skillset everyone is seeing with Canelo.. He looked bang average and often times quite confused against an inactive 160lber who could move. Canelo has decent head movement and its hard to land clean with hooks as he rolls with them. Golovkin managed to land a hard left hook in round 2 of the second fight so he can be hit. You're gonna have more success throw straights with Canelo and that was seen with Canelo constantly having his head snapped back by GGG. But he can be hit. Canelo is also a good counterpuncher... But his volume is so low and he relies on 1 or 2 body hooks or hooks to elbows and arms to win him the rounds. Billy Joe's movement in rounds 5-7 clearly befuddled Canelo who was at times swinging and looking desperate. Remember although Billy does fight up and down to his opposition he's not a 168lber has been inactive and he looked bang average his last three fights. The fact Billy came into this fight under those circumstances and was very very arguably winning the fight ( I had it 5 to 2 to Saunders as did Chris Mannix) is not a good showing for Canelo. People have extensively overhyped Canelo for robbing GGG twice and for his performances since then.. The thing is the people who Canelo have fought since GGG have not come to win at all and this is deluding the fans into thinking he's unbeatable when there is in fact a variety of styles that would beat and frustrate him. Canelo is still a low volume front footed plodder
Froch was at the end of his career at the point and Groves was a big puncher. Martin Murray said in terms of single punch power, Groves was the hardest puncher he faced including Golovkin.
Yeah, sorry you don't win a world bronze being a limited plodder. Froch had better boxing ability than that.
Froch has great endurance. Canelo doesn’t, although he seems better than he used to be. Froch has a deceptively good set of boxing skills and he is very awkward. He is also much bigger naturally than most of the guys Canelo has fought. That said he is relatively easy to hit and likes to slug. I think Canelo could hurt him due to this trait although Canelo’s power might not look as much against Froch chin. I think it could be a great fight. While Canelo is good at inside fighting he is not anywhere near Wards level at getting there or staying there. And if he doesn’t maul like Andre it is unlikely he would have that kind of success VS Froch. Froch has a very good jab when he remembers to box and Canelo had trouble with both GGG and Kovalev jabs. Makes me nostalgic for 15 rds. Canelo is more “talented “ and could win but he also might get a long night at the end of a jab from a guy who can really hit to keep him honest. Would be Canelo toughest fight as Froch has a size advantage GGG didn’t.
It's a bit of a simplification ok. But my point still stands. Froch greatest asset is his chin, ruggedness and engine. Not his boxing skills. Didn't manfredo jr chin Froch in amateurs? That in my book makes him limited .
I would add his somewhat herky jerky style. Froch was certainly not graceful, but he had a way of maximizing his abilities. He was also very comfortable in pitched combat, an oft overlooked trait, and thus would not have taxed his cardio unnecessarily by expending a lot of nervous energy (like many Canelo opponents) early in the fight. Froch also hit hard enough to warrant Canelo's attention. Consequently the Mexican icon would not be able to simply ignore any incoming and in effect "sell out" in pursuit of his own offensive. Similarly Froch was naturally strong and would not have been physically overpowered. That said, I think Canelo wins a challenging, hotly contested physical fight.
The only controversy is in the mind of Canelo haters like you. Saunders was losing the fight on points but it was never going the distance. Canelo told you so, Eddy Reynoso told you so and I told you so several times. Canelo is more skillful than Froch and Kessler. He did not look great against Kovalev but he closed the show in spectacular fashion. You don’t get penalised for stopping your opponent.
