Nice brief clips of the fight for the Britsh Empire title in 1956. This content is protected Bygraves from a very tough fighter, a bit erratic but a very capable boxer on his good nights. Kitione Lave was a powerful Tongan puncher. Both were very popular fighters in Britain in the 1950s.
Yes, I'm hoping more film of this is out there somewhere. And a lot more film of both these fighters. The after-the-final-bell exchange of punches was interesting though.
Coincidentally Lave cropped up on the BBC’s The Repair Shop on 1st May, series 4, episode 23, still available on i player. His daughter took in 2 of his championship belts for restoration. Fantastic jobs done on them. No footage of him, but several photos. Interesting career. Lost to 2 world heavyweight challengers in McNeeley & London, but kayoed Don Coc.ell a year after the Marciano fight. Also knocked out, one Eddie Hearn in ‘55!
