Only reason people are riding BJS so hard, is because of his DDD comments and the comments about dieing rather than losing...

 

Sorry mate Callum Smith did not show true courage. He accepted a short camp for a payday then let Canelo plod towards him all night and rarely sat on any shots.. Thats not showing true grit or courage, he literally did nothing.. Whether that was agreed with Canelo beforehand is questionable given several opponents have not come to win

 

It kind of was though.. Canelo was literally throwing that shot all night as if he was banking on it landing... Yeah it landed and he did well to time but if that hadnt landed in the right spot and ****ed his eye what else would Canelo be banking on? (clearly the judges) BJS was looking very comfortable rounds 5, 6 and 7...BJS was also looking v comfortable round 8 but half way through he threw the most stupid telegraphed hook, and leaned to the left for the **** knows how many times and got smashed.

I had BJS up 5-2 going into 8 and it was almost as if BJS was getting too comfortable and admiring his work. I saw no breakdown from Canelo despite all these posters going on about it. The bodyshots that did land (and not on arms elbows) did look good but BJS seemed to suck them up and did not look noticeable gassed at from them.

I honestly think Billy fd this up big time for a small error he could have avoided.. But i guess that's exactly what happens when you're inactive and not at your natural weight. BJS at 160 and active absolutely schools Canelo imo

 

It wasn't a telegraphed hook, it was a sneaky quick right hook that Billy thought he could surprise Canelo with as both were walking forward, but Canelo's quick reflexes saw it and leaned back just enough to make him whiff completely, this caused Billy to lose his balance and fall right into punching range. Canelo loaded up and BAM Billy was seeing stars.

 

The fans aren't there with them in their every day life after boxing, just look at Gerald McClellan.

I had BJS winning 5-2 aswell, as for schooling Canelo at 160 I'm not so sure, could have been a closer fight, but I had BJS up against Canelo anyways., It's not like BJS eye would have been stronger at 160.
I think Canelo always planned to take it up a gear after 8-9th round, But we will never know.
As for a lucky punch I disagree, he was throwing that on purpose to catch BJS dipping, that's basically all Canelo does, he starts slow, lands some big shots, lots of feinting untill you flinch, then he uses this data to counter.

BJS ended up getting read like a short novel.
Like I said before, we will never know what could have happened if it wasn't for the injury, seems like you and I were in the minority having BJS up on cards.

 

Agree to disagree Pal, just how we each see it I suppose. For me Callum jumped at the opportunity to unify on short notice because he was eager to challenge himself. He traded with Canelo early on and pushed through with an injured arm. Very courageous in my opinion but we all have opinions.

 

Definitely wasn’t a lucky punch if anything a great adjustment by Canelo. He noticed that BJS was ducking under when he attempt the right hook so he starting timing the ducks by feinting then throwing the uppercut. He attempted at least 3 times before that one landed right in the mark. If anything one of those uppercuts we’re gonna knock down or KO BJS if the fight continued.

 

He wanted to cry because he talked a bunch of trash and couldn't back it up. Wrote a check he couldn't cash. Talked about other guys "quitting" yet he ended up quitting. I'd be in a hurry ready to leave the stadium too after making an ass of myself.

 

I don't buy the idea that Callum fought Canelo on short notice. If you paid attenton Callum had over a year off to prepare for Canelo. If you listened to interviews with Callum before the Canelo fight was announced he made it very clear for months that he was training and preparing for Canelo. Canelo was unable to officially announce the fight until he got out of his original DAZN and Golden Boy Deal, and with the pandemic not many fights were being made in the middle of last year anyway, but Callum was well aware that he would fight Canelo next for a long period of time. So the idea that Callum fought Canelo on short notice is total nonsense. Callum had an entire year to prepare for Canelo and was in the gym for months getting ready for the phone call that the fight was announced. It was not some surprise for Callum that he took on short notice. He knew for a very long time that he would be Canelo's next opponent.

 

Good point but there was also a lockdown and a lot of uncertainty as to when, a fighter staying in shape vs having a dedicated full camp is a different matter I think. Maybe you are right but I think the level of intensity of a fight camp isn't something that can be replicated fully 52 weeks of the year.

 

he didnt even claim he was easily winning the fight unlike some of you.

he said he was making a good account of himself which was true though. it could have maybe been a draw at the time of the stoppage.

 

It was an even fight. Tough break for Saunders.

 

I laugh at the people calling him a quitter etc...

Let me smash the side of your face in...and then see how willing you are to let me do it again.

 

I think Canelo did raise his arms because it was pre-planned with Eddy Reynoso because they felt Saunders had been disrespectful to them and Mexico.
