Believe: "Let's take a closer look, Max, at a talent rich middleweight division" "Yes, suddenly talent rich, it's true." 30s in This content is protected
I do not agree. While he is not champ, he is highly ranked by western resources. If he was just average level, Canelo had finished him in few rounds, in no case he had walked vs Canelo all scheduled rounds and lost just on cards vs dudes like Canelo and GGG. Why do you think that this era is so bad? Okey, I agree that at HW there is very low number of high level fights during year and this was even before 2020 th. 2019 th too.
I see nothing in Trinidad that makes me think that Golovkin would struggle with him. I'm talking about middleweight. He's considered an ATG at middleweight.
How do you define ATG at MW? Top 5 or top 10 or 15? Where do you draw the line? MW is such a historically rich and deep division that I would be be hard pressed to put GGG as a top 10 MW of all time.
He's a hall of famer for what he's done as a MW, But his unwilligness to fight guys from 154-168, will keep him out of ATG arguments for years to come.
And yet he did rather well against Canelo. A different set of judges might have given him the win This content is protected
You can go back on these very boards to see people talking about how hot middleweight was looking. Don't take their word for it.
Not an ATG. A real great if he felt he couldnt get big fights would have taken that fight with Ward when it was on the table.. Instead golovkin fled to fight Don Wade. An authentic great would have done whatever he had to do to beat Canelo in the rematch, instead he backed away, played it safe and avoided the type of performance that was needed to win the fight. Canelo produced that performance. That's why he is already regarded as anATG
To be fair middleweight history is crazy stacked. I think there's ATGs at MW that don't necessarily even make top 10. I think any fighter that can be considered the best of his era at the weight is an ATG, assuming he dominates and his reign lasts a reasonable amount of time.
Lara and Trout did well vs Canelo too. Not calling them anything other than average either. Jacobs doesn't make you an all-time great.
Believe, I won't. The word of someone who's propping up that group of fighters means absolutely nothing in this conversation, because they're either bias or dim.
OK so we've gone from thinking it's incredible that anybody thought this MW era was strong to refusing to believe people if they say that. My work is done.
No one ever thought the division was incredible, and if they did, they're an idiot. We haven't gone anywhere, we aren't going anywhere. This is it, and this hasn't changed.
