I had: 1-2) Saunders: he was busier, Canelo landed some good shots, but I felt BJS did enough boxing to be ahead. 3-4)Canelo: He was starting to get BJS timing a bit and was starting to cut the ring. 5-7) Saunders: Stepped up his work rate and started landing some counter hooks, and some nice combinations. 8) Canelo: Broke BJS face. 5-3 BJS.
But, but, but didn't Canelo deserve to draw with Mayweather because Compubox doesn't mean jack ****? Your words, not mine...When the glove fits I suppose.
I'm not sure about easy, it looks like we have disagreement on every round except 5 and 8. That would be a cool to track, which fights have the fewest unaminously scored rounds. I'm pretty sure Estrada-Chocolatito 2 had 0 unanimous rounds.
Is Compubox reliable or isn't it? If I recall, a lot of GGG fans referenced Compubox numbers to argue GGG won a bunch of rounds vs Canelo. Now we find ourselves in a role reversal of sorts. The same arguments that I used in the past that Canelo won rounds despite being outlanded according to Compubox are now being used here against Canelo with the shoe on the other foot. Problem is, we all know Canelo's a bigger puncher than Saunders and in this case, not only was Canelo the one landing the heavier, more eye catching shots, but he was also the one who outlanded Saunders over the first 4 rounds, rounds that many people gave to Saunders. So as you can see, the Compubox numbers here present quite the quandary for Canelo antagonists since we're seeing arguments being made that Saunders won a round where Compubox has Canelo landing 10 more punches than Billy and landed the bigger punches in the round. Such a round doesn't fit the conventional anti-Canelo argument where Compubox says Canelo was outlanded with Canelo landing the better punches. But yet, despite this, we still have people arguing Saunders won a bunch of rounds that Compubox indicates he had no business winning. Kiwi I really think we need to unpack this situation with Compubox, and really come to some kind of consensus as to how these rounds should be scored.
I watched it on a really bad feed that kept cutting in and out. At a casual glance, not really scoring at the time, I thought Canelo won 1 -4, then BJS 5 - 7. Was a good fight while it lasted.
Rounds 5-7 could have easily been scored for Saunders, but the early rounds were Canelo’s. Saunders may have had the flashy footwork but he wasn’t actually landing a lot, Canelo took them with the body shots
Whilst watching the fight I had it even. But then watching it back. I switched round 1 from BJS to Canelo, giving Canelo a 5-3 lead. I was over generous to BJS in giving the 1st round to him but many others did the same thing as it was a close round. It was all immaterial anyway because Canelo was about to knock BJS out either in the 8th or 9th. The injury saved BJS from a brutal stoppage loss
5-6-7 were Saunders rounds, 1-3-4-8 were Canelo’s. Round 2 was very close, so It was either 4-4 or 5-3 Canelo.
