So your comparing his fighting attributes to his ability to teach a fighter? No logic there im afraid.

    Exactly.

A great fighter does not necessarily make a great trainer.

Not surprised. Jay Deas was obviously a useless yes man.

Seemed to be employed to shout "YEAH" while Wilder just plodded around throwing 1-2s at the pads.

Jay Deas was nothing more than a cheerleader.

He had athleicism, it`s easier to win a three round fight than a 12 round pro fight, tyhere`s no time to adapt, his best punches were straight punches because of his reach, speed and power, he didn`t need fundamentals in the amateurs but got found wanted in world title fights, he couldn`t apapt to Starling`s high guard and counter punching, Starling was far better than anybody Breland beat in amateurs, different levels, simple as that.

Well if he didn`t have good fundamentals as a fighter why would he know the fundamentals as a trainer, there`s no special academy where they teach trainers about boxing.

So due to the Starling fight, we decide Breland knows nothing about boxing

    Nothing?

What makes you think Breland is a great trainer? He said Fury had no boxing ability, the man`s an idiot.

This is the only thing - his style of fighting has been ingrained in him for so many years that when under pressure he will more than likely revert to form.

Although he frauded the public for over 40 fights at least he was somewhat entertaining and has that lightning right hand. The first Ortiz fight (65yo) was extremely entertaining.

There are some really exciting match ups with Wilder and I would love to see him with any of the following:

    Ruiz
    Joshua
    Whyte
    Usyk
    Helenius
    Chisora
    Fury 3
    Joyce
    Etc.

I just hope he's finally done with trying to cherrypick everything (old Ortiz and fat coked up inactive Fury) and willing to fight some actual opponents . Let's be real he was in a way forced to take the Fury 2 fight after being shown up

I didnt say Breland was a great trainer, I was just agreeing with the comment Sparta made that you can't really judge a trainer on his fighting ability as they are two different things.

I mean, have you ever noticed coaches in other sports often failed at the highest level in said sport, but end up excellent managers/tainers in spite of it?

Being a coach/manager/training is about motivating your fighters, learning his strengths and weaknesses, and how to improve both, as well as studying opponents etc...it is a completely different discipline and you can't say a great fighter will automatically be a great trainer.

That's really all I was saying.

You do realise there are trainers that have never laced up a glove in their life but are good trainers? You do also realise there are very good fighters that make **** trainers and vice versa? There is no logic in what you are saying im afraid. Dont know what strain you got going there but it sounds like

I think Mark Ant is talking **** on this one. I love his enthusiasm for boxing which should be something will all share but to say Breland did not have fundamentals is bang out of order.

I suppose you know more? Pretty bold statement here. What are your boxing accomplishments compared to Brelands?
