How the Shoulder Roll fails Mayweather against Canelo and why it doesn't really work as a strategy.

It's shocking to you because you bought in to the idea that it was a Mayweather domination then you see these clips and you're like "wait a minute, I don't remember Canelo doing that".

You're shocked at seeing Canelo tee off on Mayweather like that in those clips because you did not believe that happened. That's how blurry and foggy your memory was of the match.

Thanks for providing the example. I'm sure he does it all the time, but it's so quick and he usually rises right back up. I've seen refs warn fighters for ducking down so low in the clinch, especially when it results in a headlock; they'll say don't duck down and tell the other fighter "don't push his head down". But momentary dips below the waist, I've seen that from Whitaker to Ward.

 

And? So the shoulder roll wasn't as effective against a 8 year pro, 43 fight vetran. Not suprising, considering Canelo has an excellent trainer in his corner. FM made the neceassary adjustments and pretty much had Canelo following him around the ring, frustrated and bewildered. Pure domonation and dismantling of a powerhouse fighter. A thing of beauty to witness.

Cue Mayweather in the shoulder roll landing a jab, catching a right on the shoulder, and then landing a clean straight right counter. That guy needs a better editor.

Broner was never taught how to use the shoulder roll properly. Mayweather Sr. offered to teach him. Broner mimic the roll. There is the difference.

 

Clearly you don't have any idea of what u are saying. Til this day, Canelo uses the shoulder roll to slip punches because he saw how effective it worked against him. Canelo wasn't green with 41 fights, just outclassed by a better fighter. Deal with it! It's also a reason James Toney was so successful using the shoulder roll.
