From what I’ve just been told, as it stands it off. No step aside or vacating, it’s completely off - as it stands. Obviously that will change in the coming days, weeks or whatever. What a pointless **** wilder is.
It was Wilder's side who wouldn't agree to a date last year and allowed the contract to expire. The only thing is, they used the pandemic as an excuse, so nothing is clear cut.
Surley Wilder will take the money, you would be mad not to. Maybe they can pay him step aside AND a PPV with Whyte which would surley make up the rest?
If I was Fury there's no way I'd agree to pay Wilder a single penny. After all the slanderous BS he's been spouting. The only way Wilder gets paid is if he turns up for another beating.
Fury should call their bluff and destroy Wilder again on 24/7/21 and then sort out the Big Dosser a few weeks later. What a statement that would be !
Money usually talks but you can't underestimate the ego invovled with these people. Wilder literally couldn't stand losing to Fury so he convinced himself he didn't really lose, a bit like Trump did. That same attitude will probably want to see the whole AJ - Fury Saudi plans fall apart so he can reclaim the spotlight for himself, even if they offered him as much in step aside money as he would get for a 3rd fight. Some men just want to watch the world burn. Fury's ego won't want to pay Wilder off out of his own purse and neither will AJ or Hearn want to give much away from their own seeing as this isn't their fault. I can't see how this is easiliy solved. I wouldn't be surprised with a long drawn out legal battle, with Fury retiring in between and AJ losing to Usyk.
I can definitely see Fury doing something like that, retire saying he's sick of the sport and the politics, doesn't need any of it etc, do a load of interviews and shows, promote a few things etc
The only possible upside of the postponement of this fight to next year would be the likelihood of it taking place at Wembley. If restrictions are lifted and ticket prices/sponsorship money are insane of course. Wilder needs to jog on at this point- he technically shouldn’t even be in the top five heavyweights with the governing bodies at this point.
The rematch clause may have had a expiry date, but the pandemic meant the fight couldn't be staged. It then comes down to legal interpretation and the wording of the contract. IMO, you can't start the clock on the rematch clause during a pandemic. Wilder is in the right here.
This content is protected Yeah, sounds like it's really off. Usyks promoter has had texts from Hearn and is quoted as saying "there is a fight to be made" Wilder also has quoted a HUGE figure to step aside, an unrealistic demand, basically forcing the Fury rematch.
