Looking for examples that are misleading and somewhat underhanded. I'll start...... Liston struggled with Marshal Ali had problems with Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper. Foreman struggled with Qawi and Peralta. Holmes was knocked out twice against Nick Wells. All of the above are used frequently when discussing the above in fantasy fights and its somewhat unfair to say the least. What's your favourites?.......any weight you like.
Marciano was clumsy Marciano has poor balance Marciano was a poor boxer Marciano has no defense Marciano was a face first fighter Jack Johnson feasted on small opponents Louis had slow feet Louis had no head movement Carnera was a circus act Carnera was a fraud
Liston gave up the biggest prize in sport, sitting on his chair. Foreman ducked Quarry. Frazier had only one hand.
Men like Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles can’t be that good they lost to C fighters Archie Moore was shot for the Marciano fight Every excuse ever for a Holyfield loss Patterson had a glass chin Marciano is unathletic and unskilled Marciano has no defense (my personal laughable favorite) Joe Louis has a glass jaw Walcott was a journeyman
Agree with most, but I'd say Patterson did have a glass jaw, but people exaggerate it. He did manage to get up from most of those knockdowns.
even if louis lacked head movement , head movement itself is not the end of all be all of keeping your head safe.
Somehow it's Leonard's fault Duran stuffed himself before the rematch. Also, Leonard should have fought toe to toe like last time instead of making things difficult for his opponent. Foreman should have fought guys like Bruno and Ruddock instead of facing the champions like Holyfield and Moorer.
It does get extremely tiresome when others keep bringing up Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Banks, 1962, or Ali vs Henry Cooper 1963, they never talk about Ali vs Cooper 1966. Legitimate knockdowns in 1962 and 1963. but how many of us have failed a learning test when we were in school as youngsters, or our first driving exam, we were better the second time around. Sonny Liston vs Marty Marshall, 1954, again Liston was in the learning stages, he beat Marshall second time around. We could criticize each other for the way we post or live but none of us are without fault. This talented poster who created this thread should be applauded, great thread.
I think people say some outrageous **** about Floyd Mayweather on here because they simply don't like him as a person. The guy was an unbelievable talent that was successful on every level. Just look at how he beat a young Canelo Alvarez who has been knocking out Lightheavyweights and Super Middleweights lately. Folks will say that he fought Canelo when he was inexperienced or they will say he fought Paq, Hatton, Oscar etc when they were past their prime. Some folks simply don't want to give him credit for anything.
