Ah c'mon Dubblechin, you know better than to believe this over the top narrative. Not that you cannot pick Wilder, but zone of these statements are highly biased. Liston was rattled by actual death threats, Ali not going to a neutral corner & acting cuckoo, & did not need to get up under those circumstanced. The fight was a farce, but Liston seemed legitimately put down walking into a very quick right hand. You must know this is very different from his prime, + he fought & defeated Marshall with a broken jaw. Speaking of him...You make a big deal about weight, fair enough, but if so it is especially incumbent upon you to be accurate! Was Marshall really 170 lbs. 5 pounds under the LHW limit, when they fought? if not we must doubt or look closely at some of your other numbers. An how on earth can you claim Wilder is stronger than Liston? Liston is much heavier for their respective heights, mostly because of more muscle. His upper body was bigger, & especially compared to Wilder's stork-like legs/19" supermodel thighs! Now Wilder hits very hard, but in no way can we know he hit the hardest ever. Given the quality of his competition, weakening some with illegal punches, or consider those he took longer to stop than others.
Frazier was nothing like a "pure slugger". That means setting up huge mid-range shots, often taking guys down with few or one shot. Frazier if anything was a "pure swarmer". Generally shorter/less wingspan. Fought closer, infighters. High volume punchers. Wore guys down more often through attrition. Very good stamina.
That is a pretty vicious statement. You do not know their age. if they are fat, thin, or could knock you to Kingdom Come. Insulting their sexuality is especially malicious & unbrave on an anonymous forum. Are you a 12 year old trying out your identity & trying to act tough? Stop hateful the personal attacks.
There's soooo much wrong with this,,,, Foreman said Liston was the strongest man he'd ever been in the ring with and to say that Wilder with his chicken legs and pencil neck is stronger than Liston is beyond ridiculous. Here's a secret you may have missed: Wilder can't fight! He can't box either and Sonny' jab his head off before killing him.
If you didn’t move fraZier would be on your chest, no side stepping or back stepping, he’d slug with his head on your chest
You have so many things wrong. First, Deontay boxed his way to winning the United States Amateur Championships, the National Golden Gloves Title, the U.S. Olympic Trials, a Bronze Medal in the Olympics and the WBC Heavyweight Title. Every medal or world title belt Wilder won came via decision. (And he came within one point on one card of winning the decision over Fury in their first fight). So don't say he can't box. He became a national amateur, Olympic and WBC champion by "boxing" his way to decisions. People say Wilder's power always SAVES him ... but he's only been down on the cards in ONE fight in his whole career when he scored a knockout, and that was in the Ortiz rematch. And only six rounds had been completed when he stopped him. So you're just repeating nonsense that has ZERO basis in fact. Second, when George Foreman sparred Liston, George was a freaking TEENAGER. His memories of Liston are all the memories of a kid of 19/20 yrs old sparring a grown man and former heavyweight champ. You keep leaving that out, for obvious reasons. You also left out the fact that while Liston was shorter than Foreman by several inches, Wilder would've been taller than George by 4 inches and a TEENAGE George never fought Wilder, so he can't compare their power. (Although George did say he thought Wilder beat Fury in fight 1.) Third, should we go down the list of some of the journeymen guys Sonny Liston fought who Sonny NEVER knocked out and how SMALL they were? Stanley Howlett (4-0) 203 lbs Bennie Thomas (5-1) 184 lbs Ponce De Leon (15-21-4) 215 lbs Johnny Summerlin 1 (18-1-2) 193 lbs Johnny Summerlin 2 (18-2-2) 195 lbs Neal Welch (13-9-2) 208 lbs Bert Whitehurst 1 (24-13-2) 192 lbs Bert Whitehurst 2 (24-14-4) 190 lbs Billy Joiner (9-4-3) 195 lbs Leotis Martin (30-5) 199 lbs (wasted Liston) I'm leaving off Marty Marshall, the light heavyweight who beat Liston, because Liston stopped him in their second fight, but he couldn't stop Marshall in their first or third fights. Still Marshall, a light heavy, went the full 10 twice with Liston and even beat him. Do you know how many guys Wilder fought as a pro who weighed less than 200 pounds? ZERO. Wilder hasn't even outweighed an opponent in NINE YEARS. And the last guy he outweighed (by two whole pounds, not 20 or 30, but two pounds) he stopped in less than 30 seconds. (LOL) That's what you don't seem to get. Wilder was no heavier than Liston for most of his fights. And Wilder has been knocking out guys who were bigger and stronger than men Liston ever beat in a pro ring. The only man Wilder hasn't stopped in his pro career is the 6'9" 270 pound World Heavyweight Champion. But he had him down twice, and he gets a chance to KO him this summer. Wilder would annihilate freaking 190-pound journeymen who Liston went the distance with (or lost to). And I haven't even mentioned the times Liston TOOK A DIVE or QUIT on his stool. Wilder never went 10 rounds with a freaking Billy Joiner-types. Wilder was never wiped out by a smallish Leotis Martin. Wilder has never quit. Wilder never took a dive. Hell, Wilder fired the guy who threw in the towel whe he lost to Fury. You think Liston "smashes" him? (LOL) These threads are priceless.
I dont think so This content is protected Liston in his Amateur times has even more skills as almost the entire professional heavyweight devision of today with their primitive skills , its sad but true
Actually, I'm not sure he does... As far as I can see, he's about as dedicated a fanboi as they come - balance is not what I'd expect from his posts. Posts like that are only worth rebuking for onlookers, not with any illusion of getting through to their authors. TBF, there are shadows of a point in there, but most of it is so OTT it's impossible to take seriously as a whole.
You posted a video to demonstrate Liston's defensive "skills" ... and in the video you posted, the fights end with: * He quits on his stool against Ali. * He gets knocked cold by Leotis Martin. * He goes the distance with 9-4-2 journeyman Billy Joiner. * He goes the distance with 24-13-2 journeyman Bert Whitehurst. * He goes the distance with Eddie Machen. And of those guys only Ali weighed more than 200 pounds. You're not helping. LOL Wilder obliterates him.
And your jabbing highlights video (you seem to have deleted) begins with his fight with Albert Westphal. Albert was 5'7" and 195 pounds. OF COURSE he outjabbed Albert Westphal. Albert was the same size as CANELO. Wilder is 6'7". Not 5'7" Jesus Christ.
