Mark, you are flat out wrong about Michalczewski. I think highly of Canelo and pound for pound think he is better than Michalczewski but Michalczewski is far to strong for Canelo at 175. Michalczewski is GGG times 10 as far as physical strength not to mention, he was a pretty danm good fighter on top of everything else.

As was already pointed out, Canelo himself admitted that 175 is to big of a weight for him to fight at let alone face a beast like Michalczewski. I know Canelo beat a weight drained and far past his prime Kovalev but a prime Michalczewski is a world of pain and a bridge to far for Canelo.

Regarding Michalczewski, it is a shame he never fought Jones, Toney or Tarver. A win over one of those guys and he would be a for sure hall of Famer. Either way, he has a really solid resume and is arguably worthy of the hall of fame.

**** RJJ and DM for leaving that fight on the table. Disgusting effort from them. That was THE fight to be made at 175.

    Well, that’s your awful opinion

At 175, DM matches up super well with Clenelo

my opinion had nothing to do with the actual matchup, and everything to do with the fact that one fighter avoided the best in the world, while canelo was fighting them at 23-24 years old.

Prime DM isn't a near shot 37 yr old drunk who'd already been sparked twice .. that fight was little more than Cotto v Martinez II. Prime Kovalev picks Canelo off all night long.. let alone DM. The fact that Canelo KOd LHW Kovalev but couldn't KO MWs & SMWs tells u everything about how shot Kovalev is. Not how good a LHW Canelo is. It also tells you how much he's juicing too.

So what? That’s a separate topic.

DM certainly milked his belts, but he beat top guys along the way as well. Let’s not ignore that.

    milked or not milked.

DM was all pro career LHW dude not someone bumped up in weight classes.
I don't think that prime per prime the same Erdei or Sturm could last vs him all distance.
For prime Kovalev in best shape he ever had with 6 months notice before fight I maybe had gave 50/50 if he had good night in the office.
For prime GGG DM in his prime and best shape? Most likely too strong and large for him. Prime GGG I think had chances of course but lesser than 50%.

I also think prime DM was more dangerous than Bivol for example.

without facing the best, which was a recurrent theme among german-based fighters.
i agree it's a separate topic, but it just seems ridiculous to me to build up a fighter who consciously avoided the best fighter in his division, and the world at that time.

It is interesting that usually this stuff are used by Canelo fans while Canelo did not fought any one top shape the best boxer at LHW.
He had fought previously almost finished in distance by Yarde in Russia, previously brutally finished in distance by Eleider vodka Kov over the hill and needed 11 rounds to be outboxed by shot vodka Kov until he had landed on him a KO punch.
    What an achievement.

Facing the best, for sure. :p

as i've said in a previous post, i'm not suggesting anything between canelo and DM at LHW, only that a fighter who consciously avoided a fight with the best fighter on the planet (who also fought at LHW) maybe hasn't earnt the right to be mentioned in the same breath as a fighter who fought floyd at 23-24 and fights on the biggest stage of all.

Interestingly how he had " avoided "?
I think Canelo is like Ottke and some other very famous german and US boxers. They fight in their home country, does not travel aboard.
Nothing wrong, btw do you know how good boxer Ottke was?

    RJJ is equally to blame.

Neither will admit it, but they regret not making that fight.

    i'll say it again...

go to the US and make career-defining fights.

DM, ottke, sturm, steiglitz, abraham (at MW), benn, eubank, calzaghe

Sturm,Abraham and Calzaghe fought in the US.
Eubank lived and had his amateur career there and first few pro fights. You could say he was schooled there.

ottke doesn't know how good he was/wasn't, because (once again) he never faced the best fighters in the world.
canelo is nothing like ottke. he fights on the biggest stage of all.
