1-2 Alvarez,Usyk 3-5 Inoue, Taylor, Crawford 6-7 Lopez, Lomachenko 8-11 Fury, Beterbiev, Breidis,Spence
I can barely muster up a p4p list these days, ppl take it way too seriously & there are some serious question marks over some boxers & the extent to which they are juicing, which in turn is artificially enhancing their performances, so how do we really assess.. Are peds allowed in p4p criteria?
Maybe this is not really what P4P is supposed to be, but I treat it as a 'recent resume' ranking, which to me is the fairest way to contrast boxers over different weight divisions. Who has got the best resume in the last 3 years? Covid has obviously messed that up a LOT, so right now I stretch it back 5 years. 1. Usyk 2. Inoue 3. Canelo Alvarez 4. Taylor 5. Spence Crawford don't make top 5 as his resume is **** poor. For contrast here is my 'eye-test & potential' top 5 1. Canelo Alvarez 2. Usyk 3. Inoue 4. Crawford 5. Taylor Just the way I see it.
#10. Artur Beterbiev #09. Mairis Briedis #08. Terence Crawford #07. Teofimo Lopez #06. Errol Spence Jr. #05. Josh Taylor #04. Juan Francisco Estrada #03. Oleksandr Usyk #02. Naoya Inoue #01. Canelo Alvarez Edit: added Estrada.
No love for Chocolito? Still amazing, coming off a close loss sure but he's still one of the best in the world.. Kinda like how I view Loma now, ageing but still brilliant
Taylor is above Clenelo in p4p: Clenelo has 3 gifts - GGG x2, Lara - and is now jumping divisions and cherrypicking. Average Jacobs gifted 6 rounds to Canelo and still won 5 or arguably 6 rounds. Last few fights not including Saunders, fighters have come to lose. Canelo then proceeds to jump to an easy 168 to beat an average Callum Smith who shouldn't even have the belt and with a short camp slapped on the side (not to mention Callum shite resume). Then Canelo beats a blown up 160lber who won the 168 belt off Shefat Isufi and has looked average in his last 3 fights. Not to mention Billy hadn't fought legit opposition since 2017 in Lemiuex. Taylor on the other hand is undisputed which realistically should be the only "champion" of the division. Not the idea of four champions in a division who never fight each other. Not only that but Taylor has fought undefeated prime legit opponents that have all come to win In competitive fights. Canelo has never been undisputed but is attempting to in **** poor division.
The only flaw with Josh is that his wins haven't been completely dominant. They've been close fights that he has edged. Regis and Jose are elite fighters, for sure. I think those wins will age like fine wine after Josh goes up to 147. He has two big wins. Teofimo has one. Usyk has 3. Spence has 2 (though could be 3, depends on whether a drained skeleton Kell Brook counts). Fury has 2. So he's up there for sure. Does Crawford have better wins than Josh? I'd argue he doesnt. I think there's a case of Josh being top 5 P4P.
I think Usyk is still in top 5, people really downplaying what he has done. Beterbiev, Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko and Spence make up the backend of the top 10 for me.
Top five for me. When will boxing fans start to penalize Crawford for not fighting top opponents? Taylor has clearly demonstrated he is willing to fight anyone at his weight. He’s a legit welter fighting at his natural weight, not a junior middleweight boiling down to two weight classes below his weight to have a size advantage. Usyk hasn’t looked great at HW but he’s beating much bigger guys using skill. This scores extra points in my PFP rankings. Guys who fight bums or who fight much smaller opponents, or cherry picked opponents shouldn’t be rewarded in the pfp rankings. Okay, Fury might be the exception because he’s the biggest heavyweight. I rank him higher than most people because of his skills and ring IQ. I’ve never seen a big man fight like Fury. Freak of nature.
