Lee Mcgregor he has at the moment. He was a British champion already but if he wins a world title that’s his biggest achievement so far moving up levels

Never get this argument that a good trainer needs to bring fighters through? Do some posters not realise that certain trainers are better suited to coaching elite athletes, whilst other are best developing at fundamental level. In most other sports, athletes are trained by club coaches and ‘in theory’ don’t get elite coaching until the get selected nationally. If Ben has worked with the likes of Fury, Saunders, Taylor and Haney it’s because they see something in his methods.

Completely agree with this, definitely some people better at identifying traits, weaknesses strengths etc at an elite level and at the other end there's people better at bringing people from scratch.

Like they have different strengths and weaknesses at each end of the scale. It's no different then in workplaces etc.

At elite level sport nothing can be left to chance because the difference between winning and losing in modern-era is so marginal and the material benefits can be so vast.

Lance Armstrong's naturally low Hematocrit level allowed him to achieve greater gains from PED's than other cyclists. Football tournaments are won and lost on a single penalty kick, and what makes or breaks an elite boxer's career can be any number of stand-alone events and incidents.

Watch the replay of the second knockdown and you will see that Ramirez switched off for a split second expecting the ref to call break and Taylor nailed him with the uppercut.

Ben Davison may not be the best trainer in the world, but whatever he, Josh and the rest of the team are doing is actually working and as Aristotle said 'The whole is greater than the sum of its parts'.

I don't agree with some of Josh Taylor's pre-fight tactics, but they worked and Ramirez 100 % allowed Josh to get inside his head in the final build-up similar to Prograis during the gloves are off interview.

It's that win at all cost mindset, which is sociopathic that is often the only marginal difference between winning and losing at the highest levels of any sport, activity or profession. Ramirez highlighted on it in his post fight interviews around the three minute mark.

The big question for me is not why does Ben attract all these talented fighters but why do they not stick around?

When Angelo Dundee trained Sugar Ray Leonard they had this kind of relationship. Dundee would usually only come in for the last 2 weeks of Leonard’s camp having left the 6 week fitness / weight cutting / getting sharp period to Leonard’s other part of his team.

Leonard laid the blueprint for a lot of modern day fighters, just like Ali before him. He commented on the point you made in his book.

" Speaking of my corner, I was blessed with three dedicated men who conditioned me to win— Pepe Correa, Dave Jacobs, and Janks Morton. They put in hour after hour at the gym to help me became a champion. I’m very grateful, as well, for my relationship with Angelo Dundee, whose invaluable words in the corner during the first Hearns fight—“ you’re blowing it, son”— gave me a defining moment in boxing history. It was a fight I could have easily lost. "

The relationship Taylor has with Terry McCormack seems somewhat similar to the one Leonard had with Janks Morton.

No it’s because he’s an MTK shill, who is placed to work with their clients.

Haney instantly responded on social media to clarify Davison was not his trainer, even though Boxercise Ben tried to make it look like way.

I hated the corner advice last three rounds, you cannot be coasting like that in a foreign country. Taylor should have been looking to close the show, that is the worst thing about Ben davidson.

Comes across as more cheerleader than trainer. Not too bad for near-enough finished articles like Saunders, Fury and Taylor. Wouldn't want him anywhere near our best young prospects though.

100% You can coast like that in boxing unfortunately and it was nearly a costly mistake, very similar to Fury Wilder.

I 100 % think there is an element of faking it till I make it with Ben Davison and I am not sold on him either.

He was thrown in the deep end in 2017 when he started working with Tyson Fury and has had a very accelerated learning curve over the last 4 years at the highest level of the sport.

Due to this, he has skipped a fundamental level or two in his apprenticeship but he seems to be working with a few young prospects now and only he knows how much work he is putting in behind the scenes and who or if he has a more experienced trainer mentoring him.

His gym in Harlow is the MTK Performance Centre so it seems like he has become the go-to trainer for their UK-based fighters for the foreseeable future.

He also lost a huge life-changing payday for the second Wilder fight, so it's understandable why he has become as others have said a bit of a shill for MTK.

What will prevent Ben from becoming a top trainer is the same thing that has held Tunde Ajayi back…….EGO.

I think people are missing the point with ben davidson. I get that people dont like his personality but to his credit....hes getting results. Thats the best i,ve seen taylor on saturday night...didnt get involved in a tear up like he usually does. Fought intellegently and always had something to discourage ramirez coming forward.

Not just that but they cant all be wrong. Hes had good fighters coming to him time and again...guys that are knowledgeable fighters as well. The only reason hes losing them mostly seems because he doesnt have enough big fight experience or even just experience which isnt really his fault due to his age. But hes building that atm.

Not just a good trainer but a great one imo. His biggest strength is his obsessiveness and the one that people dont realise...his insecurity. He has the fear that experienced coaches sometimes lose. The fear to lose. It makes him cover every base. Sometimes that can surpass being a more experienced coach.

Still early in his career....i reckon hes on a hiding to nothing...because the boxing fraternity dont like these guys that can take their fighters and the fans dont like his personality as he is a bit full of himself and does seem to become an expert after the event. But he knows his stuff. Hes a good thinker and his insecurity means his fighters will be well trained and in great shape. We all know tho that the first bad result will be him labelled hopeless at the first oppertunity.
