Currently Ring Magazine has Spence ranked #1 at WW, Boxrec has him #2. Both have Pacquiao at #3 in the world among active WWs.

Typically a #1/2 vs #3 fight is a career defining fight with big legacy implications. It just doesn't feel that way here, not with a 42 year old inactive Pac. And if he did manage to lose? That would be humiliating.

Still, it must be worth something. Is it similar to fighting Ugas? Vargas? Clayton?

    I'm curious what people think.

Pac would be Spence's best win.

It would be the cherry on top. Manny has done it all and defied time. Beating Spence the top WW of today at 42. Wow. Spence is very good and in his prime. Spence has all the tools and style to give Manny hell. He's much taller, long jab, also a southpaw who can box from the outside, has an excellent body attack and is aggressive. It would be a fairy tale ending if he wins this and retires (which I hope so).

In boxing history this is against the script:
    * The younger fighter crushes the older man and sends him packing (SRL vs Norris, Morales vs D Garcia, Ali vs Holmes)
    * A good big man beats a good small man (Hopkins vs Trinidad, Hearns vs Duran, Pryor vs Arguello)
    * Fighters moving up in weight find a ceiling and become less effective (Brook vs GGG, Khan vs Canelo, Foster vs Ali).

Fighters typically take on less challenges the older they get. Manny would be proving all this wrong (again!).

I assume he's fighting because it's a great paycheck, raises his profile, and is less risky than Crawford.

But ignoring that, does it improve his argument for being the best WW of this era in any meaningful way or is it more like knocking over a journeyman?

Um....possibly. I was totally wrong with my prediction on Pac vs Thurman. This time I can't count Pacquiao out even if he's 43 years old already.

After that win I said to myself, "I've been wrong again and again about Manny, if he says he can do it I'm believing him now."

Yet here I am, not just sure he'll lose but wondering if it's any credit to his opponent.

I don't like this fight for Spence, Hes in a no win situation, If Spence wins Pacquiao is old and shot past prime, If Pacquiao wins Spence is overrated ect..

    "Biggest fight yet for Spence"

Win or lose, The Truth and his team will gain tremendous experience from this. Biggest money, biggest world stage, biggest exposure yet. Additional maturity before fighting Crawford. Would only make him more ready.

Manny at 42 is a bit long in the tooth for this fight to have any legacy meaning for Spence.

If Manny wins its huge for him at 42. If Spence wins its a big 'meh'.
