It's probably not going to progress
It probably peaked in terms of skill and techniques a few decades back. It's not progressing, but it's certainly not going backwards either.

People adjust for different rules and equipment. 2000s techniques wouldn't be as effective in the 1910s either. Same is true the other way around.

Langford fought the way to maximize his success in 1910s rules, not to look the most skilled for random guys on chat forum 100 years later. Canelo's style wouldn't work in the 1910s, but it doesn'r mean that Canelo would suck - he would adjust. A shame that people can't understand that so would Langford.

Remember guys , boxers back then only kept their hands low to defend body shots. Despite the footage showing them all as head hunting strikers.

The method of using elbows to shield your body has actually DEVOLVED from the low outstretched hand position of the 1910's

I guess that makes sense. If they can't get through to the body they'll take their chances going for the head.

Lots of top pros in all eras keep their hands low. I don't see it as a huge divide between back then and now. There are always lots of good pros who like to keep the hands low, that's where they are comfortable throwing and landing their lead punches from. In every era.
Amateurs, of course, are usually instructed to keep the hands high up. But pros is a different level, with far more stylistic variation.

I agree with that. I do believe in the phenom theory and he probably was one. Great fighters would be great in any era, allowing for adjustment. 100℅.

I think (or hope) you can understand though that it's annoying for posters to read that boxing's regressed somehow, based on nothing but the absolute flimisest of 'evidence'.
Or that Langford as he was then is ripping through the likes of Fury, Joshua, Wilder etc.
    It's bordering on madness.

Yeah, it is annoying. I'm not one of them though.
He wouldn't rip through them, but I don't find it impossible for him to win a fight against one of them.

Difference being it was the stance back then and they threw in ways that wasn't condusive to knuckle turn over.

Moderns Guys who kept their hands low usually had good speed , reflexes and technique.

Old timers struk with the palms of their hands facing outward

True, but no one in their right mind picks Canelo to beat guys like Fury, Aj, Usyk, etc
