Iran Barkley: ''Making weight was sheer torture for me. Man that was tough. I used to have to come down from like 235-240 and then eat like a horse nonstop after the weigh in to put it all back on. I weighed 226 for the Duran fight.''
lol! He didn`t look heavier than Mike Tyson v Duran! His biceps certainly weren`t heavyweight biceps and he was fat as hell as a heavy.
Here he is (at "226") against Duran in 1989 : This content is protected Here he is at a legitimate 229 pounds against Coetzee in 1997 : This content is protected Those extra 3 pounds are a ***** !
Against Duran Barkley did look like a light heavyweight, Gil Clancy even made a remark about it at ringside, But he was nowhere near 190 much less 226. I've noticed some fighters make strange statements years after they retire
Whew I'd forgotten just how bad Iran and Coetzee looked in that fight, old and fat vs shot and washed up.
In case you meant it literally, even the smallest horse could very easily rehydrate 66 lbs. Googling it, the smallest weight given for a horse is 840 lbs.-& they go up to 2,200 lbs. If those draft horses had the obesity of many people, it would be a lot more. Anywho, people can routinely put on 10% of body weight without trouble if done properly-sometimes it is a little more. And those who have more muscle tend to have an easier time. Say 2 fighters are in the same division, one is 5' 6", the other 6'...The latter at the same body fat level is gonne be heavier due to his length & bone structure, so have less rehydration potential. So the math, the smallest normal (non-dwarf, not a small pony) would very easily be able to put back 66 lbs.! Barkley would not have gotten past the 180's though.
If you didn’t know any different you would think Iran was supposed to be that big. How he made middleweight I will never know. Lord knows what went on.
