Why is Josh Taylor not a household name in Britain?

Is there really still anti-Scottish bias in England? I assumed that was a thing of the past.

 

Jim Watt the former undisputed lightweight undisputed world champ was from Scotland and more famous in the 70`s than Josh is now because boxing was more popular in the UK back then and all fights were on free TV, the major channels always showed boxing and got huge ratings, Benn v Eubank 2 drew 15 million viewers in 1993 when it was shown on ITV and Benn v McClellan drew 17 million viewers, boxing on PPV in Britain will never get viewing figures like that because the public has to pay.

 

Probably more anti English bias in scotland....lol

 

That`s because there fights were shown on terrestrial TV, PPV has kille boxing in the UK.

 

And when Jim Watt was world champion there was only 3 TV channels...lol

 

Terrestrial TV channels don`t even show boxing now, I don`t know when the last time a fight was shown on a terrestrial TV channel.

 

Lewis had all four titles at heavyweight.

 

He just lucked out. If he was the brother of ''Danny Bhoy'', he would be a massive celebrity. Don't pretend the English don't love Danny Bhoy because he's Scottish. Danny Bhoy is a star all through the Anglosphere.
The UK has a bold new future ahead of it. And let's embrace it rather than looking to the past. Taylor is Old Britain. But if he marries Danny Bhoy's sister, he'll be New Britain. He can then go on talk shows and win BBC awards and so forth.

 

But then he probably would have gotten the fights he has. Top rank signed him because they wanted a cheap way for Ramirez to unify. It backfired!

 

1) He is Scottish, 2) Not the best personality, not very marketable 3) He is with Top Rank. Aside from that he is a cracking fighter.

 

Josh needs to insult the Queen or say he hates the English football team when the Euro champs are on this summer, then he'll be a household name in the UK with the tabloids for sure!!

 

Wouldn't change a thing. Lopez or Crawford don't mean thing to the UK audience.

 

Most fights wouldn't draw those kind of ratings. Not in an age where the choice of channels people can select to watch numbers more than 4.

 

Which is why I always say to those who say how boxing needs to be on terrestrial TV that terrestrial TV does not guarantee you become a star.

 

Taylor should aim for a fight with Pac. Undisputed belt at 140, arguably Pacs best weight!

That’ll make him a household name, specially in the UK. One of our own taking on a legendary name that smashed Hatton.
