It is a reckless assumption that what Johnson does against the sorry lot with which he was filmed (Jeffries, Ketchell, Burns, et. al), is what he could do against an Ali. The gulf of physicality, talent and skill between the former and latter is almost indescribable.

Johnson, with his short stature and short reach, is not going to be able to sit backfoot and try to catch an Ali who possesses a long, lightning jab and great lateral mobility. He's going to be following Ali and getting busted up. And Ali is going to control him the whole way.

    I don't see this going past 6.

Johnson threw like one punch a round... how's he gonna beat Ali if he can't wrestle him?

I’m of the opinion that Johnson, as good as he was could beat very few champions that came after him...possibly Braddock or Carnara but for the most part he gets taken to school by his successors, Ali would legitimately make him look foolish

Jack Johnsons fighting style is a product of the times due to the gloves, rules and refereeing his resembled Thai clinching (Just punching) more then actual boxing. He exploited a lot of the deficits of the times and fought men often to small and uneducated to save themselves before you start rambling about his "unseen genius" you hipster twat I think he was one of the most skilled fighters of his era as far removed as it could be compared to the "Golden age" of boxing. The argument you present on high/low guards is dumb fighters used both in all eras. it is application that is senior to form you would know this if you had ever been in a gym and or watched enough boxing tell me does Sung Kil Moon resemble any school of teaching? (application>technique)

Funnily enough if Ali fought with Jacks rules he would be at a bigger advantage. He scarcely relied on parrying anyways his own speed would be even better he would hit harder and be harder to hit couple that with his much superior strength, durability and affinity for clinching and he would probably just feed Jack uppercuts rag dolling him around the ring La Tommy Burns style with a bit of training to adjust of course.

Only if we use Johnsons rule set. His style is literally alien to Ali due to the times its barely the same sport he would match up well with John Ruiz.

Dont want to rehash that argument..... Johnson? Great fighter for his day. Against Ali? please. Would Johnson outbox, outslug him? The answer is no..... Again I am a not a huge fan, but Ali had everything. Call me crazy but the only fighter i see giving him trouble { besides Norton} would be Holmes. 1978 Holmes vs. 1970 Ali......heck of a fight

Ali is bigger and better with access to better nutrition, probably a mid round KO for Ali.

Johnson gets underrated here as usual. I'd bet on Ali quite highly, but KO before 6? Based on what?

I am pointing out if sorry ass Ernie terrell was able to tie up adn corner ali( muhammad put himself into corners) imagine what a more skilled boxer like jack johnson would do, Johnson in clinches would absolutely abuse ali, he was not Terrell he had skills in the clinch . Johnson reach was only 4 inches shorter than Ali and 1 inch longer than fraziers ,yall really just get off on not watching film and saying dumb **** . Everyone one of Alis opponents walk forward with high guard with a gap down the middle for ali to jab at , how the hell would he hit johnson with jabs when Jack actively kept his rear hand out to parry that punch away.

Certainly not based on watching film, Ali hit guys who walked forward with a high guard and a gap in the middle of their guard for ali to jab through, Johnson will have his arms ready to deflect that shot , and Ali in the clinch with Jack is all kinds of bad for ali.
