You mean gifted win ? Canelo lost to GGG first fight and second fight was a draw at best for Canelo.

 

IIMO it's as noteworthy to be on the list as much as Ward Kova.

Marquez KO6 should be on that list, as much for how Pacman came back from it as anything else!

But tbf, one could make a case for Manny vs DLH, Margarito,Cotto as well. But not having it takes away Marquez biggest and best victory.

Some others i'd maybe suggest:-

Ward vs Froch (final of Super 6 - IMO really showcased that Ward was a level above)
RJJ vs John Ruiz. Can't believe I forgot this one, in terms of achievement it should be there deffo. 160 campaigner winning at Heavyweight? Crazy!

 

Keith Thurman vs Danny Garcia should be included as well. Both were undefeated at the time.

 

FYI the first fight was a draw and Canelo won the rematch.

 

I'm defining "best" to mean performance + legacy boost:

Tarver/Jones II
Hatton/Tszyu
Donaire/Darchiniyan I
Pacquiao/MAB I

Plus a bunch of others I'm forgetting.

 

BJS was only ever winning that with a knockout he was never likely to get or a performance so dominant he couldn't get robbed.

In reality then, he was effectively fighting for a fans decision (ie: debatable robbery) and a second massive payday from the rematch... He was never likely to walk out with the belts.

It kinda sucks the drama out of the contest before it's even begun...

 

You didn't think Billy even stood a chance? Wow. What made the victory so sweet was that it didn't go to the cards so no one could cry robbery. If we're talking about what makes a win better, it's hard to top that 8th round, with the spectacular uppercut out of nowhere that made Billy retire on his stool. After Team Saunders talked about how he was coming to win and how Gypsy's don't quit lmao. No one expected that to end like that, and the fact that it was such a highly competitive contest while it lasted up until that point, made that moment even more dramatic. And the fact that it was in front of 73,000+ setting the America indoor attendance record. I don't see how anything else tops it. To get such a decisive dramatic victory over an undefeated Champion in a unification in front of a record crowd, I don't know how any other win this century could top that. It has all the ingredients, ingredients that no other fight this century can match.

 

Shane Mosley over Oscar was a SD. I selected that out of the choices. The best win isn't listed: Tarver vs. Jones 2. Roy was still at the time thought to be unbeatable by anyone remotely near his weightclass.

 

I'm surprised nobody has selected Forrest UD Mosley yet. Perhaps, some of it has to do with Forrest not being that great. He just had a great fighters number. There was something about his style that rendered Mosley so helpless.

But in a vacuum it's an ATG performance. What an absolute peach of a boxing display.

I personally loved that win and I think Vernon was great (could've done a lot more if not for the shoulder), I just think that Mosley over Oscar was a bit more significant.

 

Probably mayweather winning to pacquiao is the answer to the biggest question.

Most important fight. It was dull. OK. But its importance is underrated.

 

I'd actually put this high on the list. The victory was significant because, up until that point, JMM felt he kept getting the shaft with unfair scoring in their previous three bouts. This KO was giant statement that 1) closed the books on the rivalry and 2) could have very well ended Pac's career.

 

It's the most significant victory, but it's also seriously tainted as EVERYONE, his fans and Floyd fans included, know he was juiced to the gills.

That's why JMM's stock/historical standing didn't really move much.
