I’m sure you know this but I’ll explain it anyway. The post of mine you quoted was a response to @Aussie Invader who was criticizing DM for not making a fight with Jones. The irony, and he might be too dense to realize it (but you’re not) is that Jones was guilty of the exact same things.
Answer this:
Name the light heavyweight champion who was known for having incredible statistics, multiple belts, an ATG win / loss record, but refused to fight outside of his home country, and was content to fight unworthy mandatory challengers while making millions in a comfy cable deal and never, ever made a serious attempt to fight his number one challenger in the same division?
Do you get the point? IMO, Roy would’ve beaten DM, just like I’d have picked Mayweather to beat manny in 2009. But the fact of the matter is he didn’t. By that time Roy was already known as a prima donna, and as a guy that had a few misses on his resume. I know, I know, Benn and Eubank wouldn’t fight him, Collins wasn’t worthy, McClellan and Roy were friends in the amateurs etc etc etc. I’ve read your reasons so many times I feel like I’m expert on Jones apologetics. Loudon; it’s possible that not only was Roy a genuine athletic freak, comparable to Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson, and a boxing savant comparable to Ray Robinson and Ray Leonard but that he was also a cherry picker and a ducker. He was all of the above. The same is true for Mayweather.
Loudon, here’s two things you need to come to peace with:
1) Roy Jones Jr is the common denominator in all of his mythical match-ups not getting made. Whether it’s DM, Tyson, Holyfield, McClellan, Eubank, Collins etc.
2) Great fighters, the truly great ones, find ways to make fights happen! Guys like Ali, Hagler, Arguello, Duran, Leonard, Holyfield and now Pacquiao, seethe with greatness from the inside out. Those men would and did move heaven and earth to make fights happen and prove they were the best. Could you imagine Ali saying he’ll only fight Frazier if Joe gets 10% of the purse or otherwise no fight? Can you imagine Hagler saying there’s no way I’ll go to England to fight for the lineal, undisputed middleweight championship - why should I, because everybody already knows I’ll beat that British dude?
Jones had all of the talent of the men I listed, but none of their heart. Jones talent was so great that he didn’t need their heart...up until the time he did, and Roy went from Superman to Clark Kent and ultimately Lois Lane. The man who refused to ever fight out of the US would wind up getting bounced off the canvas so hard he applied for Russian citizenship- literally

Roy never fighting DM was such a disappointment. It would have been maybe the biggest scalp of his career and a damn good one.

Anyone changed their mind on this match up after last night?

I told you guys you were underestimating DM and overrating Canelo too much. Beating a old and ravaged Kovalev doesn't mean much.

DM has a great jab and he has enough power to stop Canelo late in the fight.
