I like the man. Got him rated at 6,with Joe Frazier below him. Great boxing skills, and that jab!! Fantastic chin and recovery powers. Was lineal champ around 7years then made a comeback in the 90 s, losing a narrow decision in his mid 40 "s to McCall. At his very best I see him beating almost any heavyweight champion thru history. Iyo, can Holmes be rated even higher then 6? Or are you not a fan of Holmes?
#4 on my ATG hw list. You could potentially argue him higher since I think he'd be problematic for Louis and probably Ali too.
Completely? Not sure about that but I'd make Holmes a solid favourite over Louis. I think Holmes' greater size, technicality and probably superior jab will really put a cramp in Louis' gameplan.
Yes completely. Larry owns Joe with footwork, size, speed. Watch Billy Conn. Times that by about a thousand in terms of of skill, speed and power.
One of the greatest fighters pd fr pd that ever lived. A good man AAANNDDD, apparently quite the flatulator.!
In terms of accomplishments, i have #7 on my ATG list, mostly because he did not win the undisputed heavyweight title (because he didn't want to) and due to the money problem, he declined to fight the likes of michael Dokes, Jimmy young, greg page for peanuts. H2H? Behind Muhammad ali. He has at beating Anybody in Any era. I would slightly favor him over Lewis, Joe Louis and Liston. I would not favor him over Ali, or the pressure fighters like frazier or Rooney Tyson but in a series of fights i strongly believe that against ali, he would be able to make a fight that is sooooooooo close he might get lucky and receive a split decision win. He could have a chance at staying on his bicycle and jabbing Tyson and frazier all night long, controlling distance with that long, hard, jab and wins by decision. I would favor him over the rest.
I have him #4. Probably the toughest champ ever. His pride and mental fortitude are not recognized enough.
Beats every HW in history except Ali. Incredible jab, could take a great punch and thrived in the latter rounds. I am not saying Lewis, a young Tyson or Foreman wouldnt rattle him. But my appreciation for him has grown.
I’ve got him at 3-4 alongside of Lewis, if I had to split hairs I would call him number 3. Not sure there is anybody I would be confident picking over him even if there are a few I would pick to beat him. At his best he is on par with his he best ever.
Have him in the 6-10 Range. He never got to face Foreman which would have prob upped his cred if he won. Never faced anyone that great and won which was his biggest problem. Tyson didn’t come along in his prime or Holy.
Greatest jab I've ever seen. He's better then Lewis as in his prime he didn't get starched TWICE and he fought some punchers.
