He's not better now than he was when he faced Helenius and Vitali back in 2011, 2012.
The "best version we've seen" is just a sales pitch now that he's been designated a PPV fighter on SKY BOX OFFICE shows, even a main eventer.

I think it's mainly because Arreola came to fight in great shape even at 40, better shape than he was in his prime, and Arreola was always a big puncher. The power is the last thing to go.

Maybe, I personally think he has something about him, we will see.

Anyway, we watched him take AJ's soul, so he will forever have that.

His one big win already makes him one of the best HW's of the past ten years. Serious.

Win or lose Fat Andy has been taken the distance in 8 of his last 13 outings and one of those was his stoppage win over AJ

He didn't stop or even hurt a

40 y/o way past prime Arreola who should've been 2-3 in his last 5, both wins over nobodies

A shot to smithereens 38 y/o Liakhovich who was 1-3 in his last 4 all of his defeats coming via way of stoppage, the win being over a 5-11 tomato can

Rafael Zumbano Love. Granted it was only an 8 rounder and Love is a tough journeyman who has only been stopped six times out of his 57 fights. However, he had been stopped x 3 earlier on that year. By AJ in 2, Eric Molina in 8, and Charles Martin in 10

A near 39 y/o Kevin Johnson. No disgrace there as Johnson is very tough and defensively cute and has only been stopped x 3. However, one of those stoppage defeats came in his previous fight against 10-0 prospect Petar Milas and a 6-0 Hrgovic floored Johnson when he fought him five months later which Fat Andy was unable to do

Joell Godfrey who whilst generally durable and a CW and it only being an 8 rounder was coming off three straight stoppage defeats: TKO 7, DQ 7, and a corner retirement at the end of round 3 to John Wesley Nofire. Two of those were up at CW Level though

40 y/o Franklin Lawrence who to be fair was durable and has only been stopped on an arm injury

Joseph Parker. No disgrace there as Parker is very tough and has never been stopped and has only been down against Whyte and Chisora

And obviously AJ in the rematch whom he was barely was able to lay a glove on due to AJ being on his bike all night

    He did stop

A 45 y/o shot to smithereens Ray Austin

    A 40 y/o Josh Gormley

Devin Vargas in a round which to be fair is quicker than anyone else has got him out of there

Dimitrenko in 5 who was coming off a TKO 9 loss to Bryant Jennings and would go onto get stopped in 3 by Tony Yoka three months after losing to Fat Andy

And obviously AJ in their first fight

To be fair he went on a 9 fight stoppage streak prior to all these fights

    He's probably better than Rahman.
Rahman did go 1-1 with Lewis but he also went 0-2 with Oleg Maskaev.

I'd put Rahman around Chisora level too.

I must admit i think Ruiz has potential to be a player again in the top of the division.

I am willing to overlook his overall showing against Arreola, as can imagine much of Ruiz time in training camp had focus on getting rid of the blubber and getting some semblance of fitness, plus I think Arreola came to the fight in shape and motivated.

Now Ruiz is well on road to being in shape he needs to be, i think Reynoso could well make Ruiz an opponent other top tenners will try and avoid.

Only time will tell how well he will do, i rate him but likewise kinda hate him for having such a disrespect for the heavyweight title, to get as fat as he did which caused his losing of it.

I want the heavyweight champion of the world to have the feelings expressed by the late Rocky Marciano:
"What could be better than walking down any street in any city and knowing you're the heavyweight champion of the world?"

Whyte beat Chisora and Parker but went life and death so he's slightly above them, I'd say Parker has the potential to beat Whyte but he's so nice it is pathetic. In all honesty this era isn't good. I legit think Bert Cooper would be a top 10 in this era and would wash Whyte, Takam and would probably beat Parker. I kept telling myself it's a good era but the only thing good is that it's more exciting than the K2 era, thats it. And Luis Ortiz isn't safe either. His onlt good win is Bryant Jennings and he has done nothing since

Agree with everything here even the last comment about Tua.

Re the Joshua Ruiz 1 fight...I think there is an element of Joshua losing rather than Ruiz winning if that makes sense. AJ dropped him with the first combination landed (which looked amazing tbh) then landed a massive right hand.. To be fair if I was AJ and landed those shots I'd be like this guy is surely ready to for the taking.. AJ thought that but didn't realise Ruizs excellent recovery skills.. AJ swung for the fences thinking he was done but Ruiz wasn't cooked yet and caught AJ in an extremely vulnerable shot for him and a shot that he didn't see. This all bent him over for the rest of the fight. If AJ was a little more cautious he probably would have knocked him down again and finished him off.

Ruiz has fast hands, excellent recovery skills but that's about it. His head movement is overrated

Ruiz showed good recovery and an excellent chin but that had to be Ruiz on his best day. Maybe the weight loss affected his chin or something but from what i can tell even before the Aj fight, he isn't all that, he has fast hands yes but so did Shannon Briggs. I don't even know if he'd beat Oscar Rivas at this point

Ruiz seems like someone that would benefit from fighting often to stay sharp and keep his weight in check, but unfortunately for him thats not the era we are in.

Does anyone actually rate him highly? guy did well to knock out Joshua and he deserves praise for it but I think most ppl know it was an upset that can happen in heavyweight boxing.

Although I agree, I don't understand the drag on Tua...

Tua would wash each and every current HW, Fury included. Ruiz is nothing like Tua. In essence, you're implying every current HW is incredibly overrated.
