Boxers talk crap ,lets be honest Yeah his previous comments cam back to bite him but he did the right thing if you think about it His life should not be defined in that instance and he risked permanent blindness if he carried on , that's a fact If others choose to do so and carry on fine , more power to them But sure Vargas carried on with a horrific eye injury and his corner left him to carry on fighting which is stupid...last thing any boxer needs is a brave corner Vargas can shut up anyway Drugs cheat who lost all his major fights ,similar to Saunders i guess but being Mexican it appears he automatically garners your support Bottom line yeah Saunders quit 100% but for a valid reason ,personally im never giving any boxer grief for doing this I took a similar stance recently with Dubois and even Kell Brook vs Spence Id put money on it you would do the same , hell i know i would In fact the bruises is why i quit years back lol
Billy did the right practical thing. He was not going to ko Canelo and no matter how much he out boxed Canelo, Canelo will always get free points for ring generalship. Best to save and live for another day after that orbital bone broke
Shadow has never been in a fight, nor would his mother let him box. All of his mythical posts are based on nothing other than a racial agenda to stir controversy within these boards. That's one of the many reasons his scorecards are wildly inaccurate, he believes 116-111 is considered 'very close' when it was Canelo on the losing end, but then when Canelo wins what many considered a draw/loss against Lara, he claims that Canelo won it wide by 'Schooling' Lara. It's all racially driven, and done to stir the pot on this board. You're literally wasting your time trying with logic and reason, as his purpose is to completely fabricate scenarios to validate himself. I'll revisit this thread in 3 days and you will still be arguing a point that has nothing to do with the original point. By that time, Golovkin and Pacquiao would have been mentioned too.
A "Racial" agenda? "Racially" Driven? Where is this coming from? What does Billy Joe quitting have to do with anything "racial"? I'm trying to stir up some kind of "racial" controversy? Don't know where you came up with that, that's the complete opposite of what I'm about. I've never been in a fight? How would you know? I don't seek out fights, but I definitely been in some scraps in my day. Nothing major, but you think I've never been in a fight lol. Sure tough guy, whatever you say. As far as Billy Joe, I'm not gonna judge Billy for his decision to hop out. But to answer the question of this topic, he absolutely quit, that's the point. Was it smart to quit when he did? Sure, could have been damaged worse had he carried on. I said as much when it happened. But Billy talked a big game about how Gypsy's are fighting men and how he'd have to be stretchered out and all this stuff. I could tell you one thing, I would never hype myself up like Billy did talking about how tough he is before hand and about how this fight was life and death for him, setting that kind of an expectation that he's some never say die warrior. Billy has no one to blame but himself for talking tough then pulling out when he faced adversity. He's gotta live with being known as a quitter for the rest of his life. The moral of this story is don't act tough if you don't got the stones to back it up when push comes to shove. "It is not the same when you call for the lion than when you actually see him coming towards you." I'm addressing your fabricated points about "racial" and questioning my fighting spirit and all this. I don't got no agenda here we just talking about how Billy Joe wanted out the fight. No need to get all butthurt about it and start coming at me sideways.
only people who have never been in a fight would say something like that (or boxers who need to talk trash otherwise). i hope you ll change your mind for the sake of fighters and their health, that was plenty of damage he sustained. BJS is still a tool anyway.
Sure but it's not a good look. He's gonna be remembered for how he quit like that forever. Boxing's supposed to be a warrior sport, it's not for softies. No one's saying that Billy didn't make the best decision for his health at that moment, but I wouldn't want to be Billy Joe and known as a quitter for the rest of my life I can tell you that much. He got paid good $$ for that fight and he could have went out on his shield but he didn't. People say he could have went blind had he continued. We don't know that, we have no idea. All we know is Billy didn't wanna find out how bad it was and he checked out then and there. That ain't a good look and that's gotta affect him mentally. How long until Billy does an interview and talk about what happened? I doubt he will, I don't think he can. What is he gonna do, go into hiding and pretend like that didn't happen? You put yourself out there like Billy did and stepped between those ropes on the biggest stage, you gotta live with the results. All I know is that Billy sure as hell wasn't as tough as he said he was. Turns out he had no heart, had no stones. It's hard for anyone to let Billy off the hook after the way he carried himself. Anyone can sit here and judge a fighter, and talk about how they would never quit if it was them in there. I'm not saying that, I'm just saying here's a guy who acted like he was some fighting man warrior who would never say die, and he didn't own up to his own expectations. I know I would never talk tough like that and talk that hard, I would just stay humble, respect my opponent and see what happens on the night. Billy didn't do that, he pranced around like a jackass, criticized other fighters for quitting and said he never would quit like that, then he did exactly that. What a fake, tough guy hypocrite Billy Joe is.
Part of the problem is that people pretend boxing is like actually being a warrior on a battlefield fighting for your tribe. Boxers like to drive that narrative of course. But it's actually a sport and a far cry from lethal hand to hand warfare where everything could be at stake. Swords and spears are quite different from punches. Death rate in fighting sports is very low. There are injuries, but people have serious fractures and disfigurement in other contact sports. Nobody gets maimed the way old warriors did. So when you actually are a warrior fighting for your tribe, going out on your shield might make sense. Because if you do survive the battle but lose, you'll be put to the sword anyway perhaps. But when you're a boxer fighting for money and your family is never going to starve either, then going out on your shield (dying) makes zero sense, and going out on your shield as a manner of speech, taking permanent damage, that makes little sense also. In fact, it could hurt your ability to continue your profession. Having said all that, if boxers stopped pretending they were actual bronze/iron age warriors and admitted that this is a sport and just prize fighting, people would give them less abuse for retreating/quitting in a fight. As soon as you brand yourself a real warrior on a battlefield, then retreat becomes cowardice.
People say he could have went blind had he continued. We don't know that, we have no idea. Sure Shadow, its well worth the risk isn't it And if your using the word "could" then yes it was very possible , we do know that
why do some of you have such a hard time admitting that there are men who would not have even considered thinking about quitting in bjs situation? ask yourself, why am i struggling with this? have you never seen it happen? if you have, do you think it was only stupidity that drove them on? and if youre already aware that men like this exist, why is bjs being compared to them grind on you so much? sort yourself out and get to better know yourself.
Trying to detract from Billy Joe quitting with a "racial" angle? Give it up hide and go seeker, you're embarrassing yourself.
Fighters take a risk every time they step between those ropes. We've seen worse looking injuries in boxing. There's a fine line between being a warrior and going out on your shield and living to fight another day. Every fighter has a different pain tolerance and a different risk threshold when it comes to their health. When you're clearly hurt as Billy was, and you never experienced anything like that before, it's understandable that he wanted out to prevent further damage. He just got totally wrecked by Canelo Alvarez.
