I'm taking 62' Sonny without thinking twice. I love Frazier but I think he is Taylor made for a slugger like Sonny and I think this fight looks a lot like Foreman vs Frazier 1 and 2.

I would favor Sonny Liston but I don’t think it would be an easy fight. Sonny had a tremendous jab but joe was great at slipping it and landing that left hook. He also had heart, stamina, and a high work rate. It would be a war

The hypothetical date is Nov 15 1962, Sonny Liston has heard that Joe Frazier from the future has come gunning for him. Frazier comes on television, he states to the television interviewer, Liston Thinks He Is Big And Bad But I Destroyed Jerry Quarry Last Year. I Also Beat Ellis Like I Was His Poppa. Sonny gets on the phone, tells his manager Jack Nilon to get him a fight with that Munchkin from that old movie with Judy Garland.. Nilon replies, I Will Give Yank Durham A Call. But That Loudmouth Kid, Cassius Clay,( Muhammad Ali) Is Making A Lot Of Noise, states Sonny. Nilon replies, Maybe He Can Go Fight Patterson. The two camps meet, for the contract signing, seated next to Liston is trainer Willie Reddish, next to Frazier is Eddie Futch. The fight date is March 13 1963, in Madison Square Garden, the undercard is Clay vs Doug Jones, as Floyd has suffered an injury to his back. The newspapers are on strike ,Ruby Goldstein has been designated by the New York Boxing Commission as the referee. Joe enters the ring in Green trunks with gold trim. Liston in Black trunks, with white colored trim. A surprise cornerman in Joe's corner has arrived, it is Eddie Machen, who has worked with preparing Frazier for this fight. At ring center, Liston whistles the tune from 1939's The Wizard Of Oz, The Lollipops Kid song. Joe fuming, looks into Liston's eyes with anger. The fight begins with Joe catching Sonny with a left hook as he bobs and weaves. Liston pokes out the stiff left jab. Machen tells Joe, Make Liston Come To You. Liston begins to move and counter Frazier, who bullies his way into Sonny's thick torso. In round 5, Frazier's left hooks have taken the wind out of Liston's sails, who has also a laceration on the nose. In round 6, Sonny lands his patented left hook, Joe stumbles back, realizing that he is in trouble, tries to flee at the loud urging of Durham, but is lifted off of his feet by a Liston right hand. Joe falls to the canvas, as he rises, Sonny pushes him and rains punches on Joe's bloody swollen face, Joe is spilled again, Eddie Futch throws in a white terry cloth towel into the ring, Goldstein stops the bout. Liston walks up to Joe and says, You Do Not Not Have To Feel Shamed, From Now On We Can Share The Song, Night Train, I will Send You A Copy. On the undercard, Cassius narrowly defeats Doug Jones, in which Liston replied in his dressing room to reporters, Frazier Will Wipe The Floor With Clay If They Ever Meet.

I would make Liston a solid favorite. Much as I love Frazier who is my favorite fighter, this is an absolutely terrible match-up for him. Arguably Worse than Foreman. Unlike Foreman, Liston had excellent stamina and had more than enough in the tank should this bout go into the late rounds.

Hold on here. Liston was an old man who needed a walker to get to the ring in early 1964, according to popular opinion on this forum, and didn’t win the title until the fall of ‘62.

Yet this old, broken down pug who Ali beat was a monster who could handle a prime Joe Frazier?

    Can’t have it both ways.

I thought you would like this, but I do not go with the flow, it is a type of sci fi hypothetical match. I would not make this fight for 1964, but I figured Sonny might have enough left for Joe. How did you like the sound track? Lol.

Jesus Christ, all I've ever seen you post in regards to Liston is the Ali bout and trying to convince everyone he was still at his best. Give it a break mate  I promise you, nobody cares half as much as you think.

On the one hand you say he’s washed up.

On the other you make him the favorite to beat prime Joe Frazier.

    LOL.

    You appear to be mistaken.

    1. This is about '62 Liston. The one who beat Patterson to win the title. Not the version who lost to Ali.

    2. I never said, the Liston who faced Ali was washed up. Please find me a post, proving me wrong or apologize.

You’re jumping on me for suggesting he wasn’t washed up. Then you say you never said he was washed up.

The version of Liston who faced Ali was 17 months removed from the one who won the title from Floyd Patterson. In the interim he suffered no damage and completely destroyed Patterson in less than a round. So there’s no wear and tear to speak of.

People don’t age significantly in 17 months. Ali beat the real Sonny Liston, not a faded memory of him.

I "jumped on you" for bringing up the Ali bout and Liston's condition into every ****Ing Liston thread. It's very odd, and weird as ****. Even now you're attempting to engage me into a debate about it, while not remotely contributing to Richard's thread. All you're doing is derailing it , with the same repetitive, and predictable **** you've been spouting for 12 ****ing years. Move the **** on already mate.
