He lost to Triple G twice

 

He has fought many fighters with large and extreme fan bases: Floyd, Cotto, Golovkin, Khan I mean those are 4 of the most talked about fighters of the last decade and a half. It is a big factor. Never underestimate emotion.

Also "anointed" fighters (if they go on to prove themselves or not) with the golden ticket will always be disliked by a big sum. And finally, when you're #1, well, see above about emotions.

 

Give a currently active fighter his due??
