He was probably a top 3-5 fighter in the division at his peak, just not worthy of his record and basically destroyed his legacy (fairly or unfairly) in the Robin Reid debacle.

He shared his division with a certain Welsh man who is also undefeated, this is probably the only instance when 2 undefeated champion danced side by side for nearly a decade without touching each other. Interesting behaviours, indeed.

I don't know if he qualifies but Juan Diaz at LW doesn't seem to have that much effect on his punches even though his punching mechanics seem sound.

Man how could I forgot, thank you for your wisdom. The question who is to blamed though, it seems those two aren't particularly fond of facing each other as well.

He knew what he was doing. Ottke took 0 risks in his fights, I mean why took risks, when you cant punch for **** anyway and got the ref and judges by your side. So he had to throw some pillowshere and there, get out of danger zone by clinching or keeping distance and the W is in your pocket. When his plan aint working he gonna complain to the ref like in Reid fight.

Actually I think that Ottke was capable to achieve KOs and wasn't weak physically.
The problem looks that he had developed high level defense skills, looks that in amateur ranks where he had fought a lot of very high level elite amateur boxers. Really his am experience was with damn high level opponents.

Then Ottke in pros looks that more than 90% was occupied with evasion and defense not offense.

Ottke cards ofc are well known thing.
There another stuff too was in the game: because Ottke really was highly skilled and strong for his weight class dude, to get him down was not possible.
If this is till cards, Ottke :).
Ottke might had racked even 60-0 record in Germany if he had more fights. I'm not joking.

    Not at all
Look at Jones/Michalczewski as an example

    0 risks?
He became a unified champion and beat many top 10 rated SMWs when the era was little known and very strong
Many of the top fighters were not so well known but very good

It amazes me how few knew smw before J Lacy came on the scene

Maybe Ottke was cautious cos he had a lot of ammy fights vs notable boxers. Some from them he won, vs some had lost in amatuers.
Actually Ottke amateur resume for me looks damn interesting.
Notable opponents list he had in amateur ranks is impressive. Some of them.
Looks that Ottke had 3 fights vs Hernandez, Hernandez resume is not worse if not better than Loma resume: 2X Olympic Gold, 2X World Gold, 1X World Silver and even Hernandez junior rank resume is impressive : again 2X World Gold medals in resume.
Angel Espinosa : 1X World Cup Gold, World Championships : 1X Gold, 1X Silver, Pan American Games 1X Gold.
    _____________

Ottke had win vs World Championship Bronze medalist Mendy.
Vs Erdei he had won, Erdei was good amatuer, Olympic Bronze medal, 1X World Championship Gold medal, Euro : 2X Gold, 1 X Silver.
Erdei later was a pro, does have wiki page.

Maske, as opponent in am ranks, about him next post might be created, am resume for sure not worse than Usyk's am resume.
Then Chris Byrd, Traver and these just few from notable boxers Ottke had fought in am ranks.

So many boxers fight people so far out of the depth early on, that it's difficult to find many with a really low stoppage %. Especially as fights are far more likely to get stopped these days.

Josh Warrington is one of the rare ones with a KO % of around 20%.
