Of course there are fighters of legend who made a habit of rising up, dusting off their trunks after a knockdown and winning … sometimes in spectacular fashion. Danny “Little Red” Lopez, Naseem Hamed and Floyd Patterson to name a few. Aaron Pryor was also in this category.

But who are some big-name boxers who never did it?

    Mike Tyson comes to mind.

    Who else?

And what does that tell us about them?

Tyson was the first name that came to mind.

Chuvalo is another, by virtue of not having been floored. On the other extreme, Joe Grim was knocked down a lot but did he ever win?

Not sure about these: Oscar Bonavena, Lennox Lewis, Sonny Liston, Max Baer.

Not to have come off the canvas to win doesn't necessarily detract from a fighter's greatness. Maybe they were only knocked down very few times in their career if at all and lost those fights by decision. What it says about a fighter depends largely on the circumstances. For Chuvalo it speaks of his durability. For those who did not win fights in which they were knocked down the meaning could range anywhere from losing a close decision determined by the knockdown to outright quitting.

You are right about all of those guys. Bonavena was floored six times, once by Folley, twice by Ellis, and three times by Ali-all losses. Lewis was floored just twice in his KO losses to McCall and Rahman. Liston was floored also twice in his KO losses to Ali and Leotis Martin. And Max Baer was floored six-times-he got up to knock out Frankie Campbell, but suffered 3 KD's against Louis and 2 against Lou Nova, both in fights he lost.

I can't recall Michael Spinks ever being down other than the Tyson fight. I could be wrong though?

David Tua went to the canvas in the first barrett fight!! The fight was scored a draw, so he deserve a mention.

    Nope.

Bobby Czyz was floored by Leslie Stewart then won a close decision.
