Mercer was a 6'1 plodding heavyweight, he doesn't prepare Lewis for tackling Fury. Mercer was considered a gatekeeper type at the time, and prime Lewis barely beat him. Golota made his reputation getting DQ'd twice against a shot Bowe, and lost every fight when he stepped up. Tua was 5'10 and plodding, overweight, short reach, does not prepare Lewis for Fury in the slightest. And I suspect Fury is actually a better boxer than Vitali. Of course Lewis's resume trashed Fury's. Of course Lewis in his prime is better than old version of Wlad. But that doesn't mean Lewis was beating guys who were like Fury.
Lennox Lewis has said it himself, he'd have had some real trouble with Fury. You won't find him saying that about Wilder and Joshua.
I think Fury would have been awkward for Lewis to fight and that Lewis was within the scope of fury to beat ... but if I had to bet it would be on Lennox.
And who has Fury beaten that prepares him for an agressive Lewis. The closest thing is Aj and Aj himself is inferior. Wheres your logic now ? Wilder is a one trick pony with a extreamly thin resume, Wlad was well past his prime and stood there doing nothing the entire fight because all Wlad knows how to do is fight at range and Chisora is a gatekeeper LOL. And btw Golota got robbed against Chris Byrd and Mercer was a good infighter, better than Chisora most definitely Lewis turned into a pressure fighter against taller men. He pressed the action HEAVILY against the likes of Grant, Biggs and Akinwande and was agressive against Vitali from round 3 onwards. Its like you have no recollection of when Tyson Fury had issues outboxing bum Otto Wallin when Wallin pressed the issue, now imagine if that was Lennox Lewis, and in addition to that Lewis is a better infighter than anybody Fury has ever fought This content is protected
I think people romanticize people from different eras in sports, it's pretty much fact athletes get better over time both skillwise and their nutrition training. I think Fury would surprise people but we will never really know.
Fury would make him work for it, but I have Lewis winning it Fury definitely pushes him hard and would bring the best out In lennox Lennox would crush the bodybuilder and chicken legs on the same night
You compare Boxing with other Sports , it is laughable that some people just don't understand and compare Boxing with running or other sports. Even Boxers from 100 years ago can theoretically knock out any current boxer. I go even further. A human from 5000 years ago has the chance to knock out every other living person , boxer whatever. Because we're the same, we're not aliens or anything unless something went wrong with you.
Lewis has a great resume on paper but his major opponents ie Holyfield was way past it and Tyson was completely shot. Outside of that the bulk of his wins are Tyson left overs. He went life and death with Ray Mercer who some feel actually won the fight. Lewis will have to get rid of Fury early, if it goes late I will favour Fury. Lewis has never had a late TKO or Ko. When he realized he couldn't ko someone he would box safely using his height, reach and box outside and if it becomes a boxing contest then he will be playing into Furys hands as Fury can box orthodox, southpaw, move like a light weight around the ring at 275 lbs, he is going to be the bigger man than Lewis in this fight. This is a very even fight. Lewis used to despise Fury early on in his career but he acknowledges that out of AJ, Wilder he is the most complete fighter
