If he gives a good account of himself tonight will you be back on the hype train? Let's say for argument's sake he puts in a very good performance tonight, where does that leave him? How will his trajectory go and how do you think it should go? Discuss..
He'll definitely win a version of the world title, would not be so surprised if he unified and got a second belt either at some stage in the years to come, although he will never be a dominant HW like a Lewis or Klitschko for e.g. He's got genuine power, a good solid jab, good fundamentals, looks a natural athlete and outside of boxing appears to more or less live like a monk. Crucially, he now also has a world class coach who over time will improve him. His feet will improve, and mainly his head movement will too. He's still only 23 years old so a baby in terms of the division he is in. The belts will inevitably splinter within the next 2 years if not sooner and outside of AJ and Fury I have believed for quite some time it is a weak division not only now, but also in terms of the younger fighters. I don't think either AJ or Fury have long in the sport, might not be a popular opinion but I always thought IF (big if now..) they have their 2-3 fights together Fury will 100% retire and AJ not long after that. I don't believe they will hang around to fight the next generation... If you look at the next generation e.g. Ajagba, Yoka, Hrgovich etc they have so far been not that impressive or free of flaws. I would back Dubois to beat 2 out of the above 3, and even against Hrgovich I would put his chances at roughly 50-50%, at least based on what we have seen in the ring so far.
Dinu as a comeback opponent isn’t terrible as he is above the level of a complete can. That said, he should be fighting someone durable next with an eye on getting back up to Euro level this Autumn. He is still young and easily could win a version of the heavyweight title if he progresses steadily.
Time is on his side and I'm sure he will be given every possible advantage as a "home" fighter by Mr Warren.
I was never on the hype train originally but found myself supporting / feeling sorry for him nowadays. I don’t know why but I just feel like he doesn’t belong in a ring and he’s a young man being exploited due to his physical attributes. Hopefully forges a good career but I don’t see him beating a genuine world champion for a genuine world title. The only way he picks up a title is a vacant one.
People want to see 50-50 competitive bouts and then we have the usual clowns contributing with their usual inconsistent malarkey. Dubois and Joyce had a very competitive bout. Both showed strengths and weaknesses, fought hard and put on an entertaining domestic scrap. I was happy he lost, and it was particularly sweet in light of his comments regarding Joyce's mother and her impaired vision but if Dubois didn't suffer that injury, he wasn't far from potentially winning points. Either way, it would have been close. Anthony Joshua got battered short and obese blob (and quit). Anyone can lose to a quality operator and can also come back from it. Don't moan about a lack of 50-50 bouts and at the same time air these hogwash retrospective conclusions which then breed poorly justified hypotheses. Unfortunately for Dubois he can't seemingly be stuck in with the Cornish's of the world until he's able to buy the belt off a default champion like Martin, before defending it against novices like Breazeale and maths teachers like Molina.
A man once picked up a title against Charles Martin and big DDD will find a suitable pudding once the current crop at the top have sailed off with all their PPV loot in 3-4 years.
Thought it was a great fight to make at the time and although DDD failed, he will have learned valuable knowledge about his own weaknesses which can be worked on. The eye injury was awful on the night and he made the right decision on the night. People should look at a real quitter like Pudding Chisora and he has still incredibly racked up piles of loot. Hope big DDD comes back to prove people wrong
I'm not sure that Dubois even wants to fight as a professional to be honest. Every impression I get of his whole set up is that of a dad trying to live vicariously through his son. Mark Tibbs hinted at it recently and his dad actually took over the conversation when Daniel tried to do an interview on TalkSport. It was pretty cringeworthy and I feel sorry for the lad.
Dubois needs to keep trim. I think he was bulking up a bit too much like Joshua. But I don't think he has the frame and durability to come in too heavy. I haven't written him off, Joyce is a handful for everyone in the division.
Imaging cherry picking an opponent, who happens to be a foot shorter and built like a sumo wrestler, for the bloke to batter you from pillar to post. I can't get over that. No harm in losing in any 50-50, especially so young. Dubois is a natural heavyweight and certainly has a big, heavy frame. You can see that from photos of him as a young boy. Therefore, I am inclined to agree with you in the sense that I think it's unnecessary for him to have this hypertrophic desire. Definitely needs to lower his dose on sound hot sauce compounds.
